Depending on what sort of dropsy it is you can give medication or add a little aquarium salt (to try and draw fluid out), but sometimes (meaning most of the time) there isn't much you can do. The color change may be due to stress, diet, or a variety of other things. Be sure to mantian the water quality though as this seems to what got you there in the first place...

A lot people mistaken their guppies changed color when actually was the reflection of lights when their guppies swam at a certain angle relative to the light source. Yes at certain angle the scales of guppies will reflect lights. Put the guppies in natural light for better observation. There is only the black pigment cell in certain male guppies like the endler which can prominently appear as spot when the male guppies are in courtship.

Dropsy is not really a disease. For all intensive purposes we will call it one. It's really an internal bacterial infection.

Fish may recover with no treatment and may die despite it. The swelling is because the fish is absorbing water faster than it can eliminate it, and it can be caused by many different problems. Internal bacterial infections, including fish TB, are other possibilities.you may want to attempt antibiotic treatment in a separate tank. Usually caused by kidney damage. Kidney damage may be caused by overuse of drugs or a disease.

Fish usually die from this. It's possibly the hardest internal bacterial infection to cure. There are a number of medications available such as penicillin, tetracycline and naladixic acid. The fish usually doesn't make it.
It is advisable to use API "Stress Coat" during any treatments, and use API "Melafix" as an all natural antibacterial remedy that protects the fish during treatment, and also repairs damaged fins and lesions rapidly. Also ensure all Zeolite and Charcoal/Carbon filter media are removed from filters, and any type of steriliser (e.g. UV, Ozonisers) are switched off, for the duration of the treatment.

Temporary color changes are associated with reproduction occur in many freshwater and marine groups. Or it could be a reaction to lots of stress or a medication you put in the tank.

If the guppy has dropsy there is practically nothig you can do about it and really should euthanize the fish as it is suffering. The best way to do that for a guppy is put it in a small container of tank water and place it in the freezer until it's frozen. Won;t hurt the fish at all.
