Oscar's come from the family of chillids. They are very large fish and not very colorful. They grow extremely fast. They have usually different dark colors in differnet patterns. Most oscars will grow to 10-12 inches or larger!!!

Baby Oscar's are about size of half dollar, however they grow rapidly and reach diameter of 6-8 inches or larger depending on size of aquarium, the more room the larger the fish.

You usually see them in pet stores as small colorful fish and without a warning of just how big them get. An adult tank raised Oscar will normally get about 12-14" long and is quite agressive. Here are some pics that will help:

Oscars get to 18 inches long. They are black (albinos are pink) with red or orange stripes. You're probably confused with gouramies, which are very common in pet stores, and are blue, yellow, or pink.
