health wise and color wise im also looking to buy a male and a female. i have also owned bettas before but they died when i was cleaning the tank ( long story but they did not die of natural causes). THANK YOU

I forgot to add that they have them at my local pet store but they are pretty much dead as soon as you get home.

The very best betta to get are from IBC (International Betta Congress) breeders. If you can't find any on the web that are labeld that way, you can join the IBC and buy from breeders through the for sale lists they put out and mail to you. You could also learn a whole lot about bettas from being a member of that group.

Aquabid.com They have tons of betta breeders on there selling all kinds of rare varieties that aren't mass produced. They're raised in home breeder tanks most of the time instead of farm raising, so they'll be healthier.

the woman that runs bettatalk.com has some nice ones -- most really nice ones you are going to have to pay major money for shipping them from thailand. find out if there is a local breeder organization. they will have names and numbers of local breeders.
