I told my friends parents I wanted to get their kid fish for his birthday. They already had a tank but they went out and bought a small plastic tank. It had Nutrafin goldfish food in it and I was wondering if you couldd feed it to guppies or swordtails or something like that without it hurting them.

This lovely peal goldfish is very very cute and very very timid withtender temperament. She never chases other fish and is always swimming happily and peacefully. But she was bitten by another aggressive fish who is very very mean all the time. And I seperated the aggressive one immediately after finding the attack. But today I find the wound has worsened so fast and there's blood everywhere around the poor little one's body. What shall I do? I'm worrying to death....Somebody please help me........

I have a 1 gallion fish bowl. I thought I would get a bubbler for my goldfish that is in it. Only one I have found was a 5-15 gallion bubbler. A friend of mine said that her fish (same as mine with same bowl) acted strange when she put the bubbler in it. Will the bubbler have any negitive affect on my goldfish? Any other fish bowl advice will be much appreicated. (I'm use to 10-more gallion tanks, not bowls.)

I had bought two goldfish a while back and they died lest than a week. I kept the tank clean and fed it once or twice a day. I just had a regular bowl. I was told that i needed some type of chlorophine. I dont know if this was true or not because this is the first i ever heard about this.Is this true and is there any other possible ways the fish could have died. Please help me.

I have had one particular goldfish for about 3 years now and it has extremely beautiful long frilly tail and other fins. I bought him as a feeder (29c goldfish) along with about 6 others who all decided not to survive. So he lived alone for about 2 years in a 5 gallon.

Last year I bought about 8 other goldfish who, after being fed well and time in the 'quarantine' tank are all about the same size as my first fish. They all live together now in an 80 gallon tank. But none of the new fish are developing the frilly tails that make the first one so pretty. Is this just random genetic variation or are there ways to encourage more fin growth? The variables as I see them are solitude, less water to swim around in, diet (the 5 gallon had a lot more algae growth than the 60 gallon) or just random genetics. The fact that 8 other fish have not managed to grow any additional frills or tail length makes me lean away from genetics. Thoughts?

I have a swordtail whos belly looks a bit sunken, but its really hard to tell if thats just its normal body shape. Im afraid it may be internal parasites. Should I only treat for it if im sure it has them, or should I be sure first?
And if I should treat, what medicine is best?

I think it is a catfish, it has the mouth shape, and it has whiskers. It has an orange body, a red/orange tail, and dark red, very, very, beady eyes. I got it at walmart, where they are clueless about fish, so they had no idea what kind of fish it was. They charged me for the closest label, a pleco, for $4.
