Yes that is a BIT to small. And I say 'bit' sarcastically. Stuffing those goldfish into a tank that small would be like sticking you in a bathtub. Only, you'd live longer.
Im not saying its too small for theyre size or anything like that. Thats a factor but size alone will not harm the goldfish. What harms the goldfish in such a small area is the concentration of ammonia from their poop. The ammonia eventually builds up and the fish begins burning from ammonia poisoning. Its the same effect that methane from cow flatulence has on the ozone layer.

Absolutely too small for them. The best fit for goldfish is ten gallons per goldfish. I have kept two goldfish in a ten gallon for two years now and even that has been a hassel. I have to constantly be doing partial water changes and checking my fish for any bacterial infections. Though so far all has been good, but still. If you want, you could buy your ten gallon aquarium and put two goldfish, with the idea of buying a bigger tank later on. That's what I did, so now I'm about to get a 46 gallon tank for those two and two new ones.

The minimum size tank for 1 baby fancy goldfish is 10 gallons and adults need 20+ each, so yes 1/2 is WAY too small. If properly taken care of they can live for more them 20 years, the oldest on record I believe was 42 or 43 when it died and they can grow 8-12 inches long. If you can't give them what they need to thrive then don't get them just to give them a long and painful death. Here are 2 sites you should check out,

Oh and BTW goldfish don't adapt to their environment, they usually die and the ones that fight to live become stunted and die a very painful slow death.

Yes. You cannot have any fish in a 1/2 gallon of water. Even bettas shouldn't be kept in that small a tank.
Goldfish require 50 gallons of water per fish as they will get over 12+ inches long.

that would not be a competent thought. The Betta is the only element you could save in there. The goldfish desires a minimum of 10 gallons of water, with the aid of intense ammonia in that is waste. Plus, the Betta might maul the goldfish.

Yes, if you want them to die slowly from toxins in the water burning out their insides. No if you want them to be healthy and live.
