I have a 20 gal tank and I'm wondering if adding a power head to add some water flow will be too strong and actually disturb the puffers (I have 4)?

I read on a blog that a power head can actually suck a puffer and get it stuck! Also, sometime when my puffers aren't paying attention, they'll get temporary stuck on the filter (it's a pretty weak filter).

Just a couple of quick questions:

1. Is there any specific way to cut my plants so that I can regrow another plant from the cuttings - or do i just hack away and stick the cuttings right back in the gravel?

2. I was told it is not a good idea to use carbon in the filter if I have plants.... Why?

i have a 29 gallon tank, i have...
4 guppies;3 dwarf gouramis;5 glolight tetras;1 African Dwarf Frog; 1 Snail; 2 marble shrimp and im getting a few more fish about eth same size as teh glolight tetras. I plan on turning it into a planted aquarium(I plan on having some empty space tho for teh frog) I kinda want/ think i need more on my cleaning crew, ppl have told me clown loaches are good at eating left over food and such and also eating snail eggs, but th e oto is so good at eating algae, i kinda only have room for maybe 2 or 3 of these total.
Should i get 1 loach and 2 otos or 2 loaches and 1 oto?

dont otos need company?

Ive heard of otos staying with corys and clown loaches, is t true?

before i invested in a 10gal filtered tank he used to live in a small bowl and make alot of bubble nests and swim fine...but now that i have transitioned him to the 10gal tank with filter he seem to be more agressive and seems to be swimming harder...should i take hime out of the 10gal tank and put him back into the smaller one?

Help

1. Bought 100L aquarium. Included - water pump, air pump + bag of small, hard, greyish 'stuff' and two "sponges" + water heater + 20ml Aquavital "conditioner", "stress remover", packets of Aquavital "nitrigon 1" and "nitrigon 2" + testing sticks !

2. Nightmare starts now.
a. Installed water pump, heater, air pump, two sponges with 'bacteria' (??) greyish stuff between.
b. Added Aquavital "nitrigon 1" packet under sponge 1 right ON the greyish "stuff"."
c. Added Aquavital "conditioner" to water.
d. Tested water after 24 hours - color shows it is very "HARD".

3. MORE
a.) For two days it is "working" with NO FISH.
b.) There's some white "dust" at the bottom of the tank. Not much and NO idea where it came from.
c.) Water is warm and crystal clear. Never got "green".
d.) Still shows "hard"

Can I add fish ? What the "heck" do I do about water "hardness" ? What fish SHOULD I put in the tank ? I don't even know WHAT I am waiting "for" :)
