My fish are less than 1 month old, and my fish die already! I have 11 fish: 2 balloon mollys, 3 tiger barbs, 1 green tiger barb, 1 sucker fish, 1 bala shark, and 2 fish that i don't know. I have 2 fake plants, 1 real plant, and one big rock with holes in it. My tank can hold 10 gallons of water. Does anyone know why they are dying?

Not smell, as in release an odour. But, smell, as in the sense of smell.

Hello all, I received a 46 gallon tank for Christmas (I have always wanted one). I have gotten off to a horrible start, here is my story.

I set everything up, and let it all circulate for about a day. I had planned on doing a fishless cycle. So, I read up on using ammonia and made sure that I did not buy any ammonia containing detergents. I went to Stop&Shop to purchase ammonia. I picked up "Pure Power Clear Ammonia". I was sure it was 100% pure ammonia, but boy was I wrong. I put a small dosage into my tank (this is before I knew the ammonia was bad). The next morning, I realized that my water surface was very soapy looking. I read the ingredients of the ammonia, and it listed SURFACTANT. Oh no. I looked it up. Turns out you are not supposed to use ammonia with surfactant in it!!! I wish I had known!.

I emptied my entire tank. I trashed the gravel and plants, as well as filter media and bio-wheel because it'd only cost me around 70 bucks to replace. I rinsed out the tank several times, and I also sprayed and wiped each side of the glass with water many times. I rinsed the rock with a hose over and over. After that, I cleaned out the entire filter, thermometer and heater. I filled my tank back up with water and water only. I ran the filter, but with no media or bio-wheel for fear of contamination. I began to test the rock in heated water. I left i over night, plus three more hours upon waking. There was no sign of soap. So, I emptied the tank and added allll my new stuff. This morning, I see....soap. Oh no.

My tank seems to be contaminated yet again, most likely from the large fake rock. I am very upset and am only 15 years old so my budget is pretty slim, and I already spent a lot of money on gravel and plants and stuff. Is there anything I can do to rid my tank of this surfactant, without having to empty it out again, rinse or buy new things? Sorry for the length, but I really am stumped on what to do.

Thank you

It's a reddish purple Betta, and I'm considering it a male fish just because I want to. And don't make fun of me because I want to name him. Some people consider fish as insignificant, whereas, I think of him as a loved pet.

I had an 8 year old common pleco that was about 11 inches long in a 55 gallon tank with various african chiclids. He was fed algae discs, cucumber and spinach and appeared to be in good health. The pH was 6.5 and the temp 72 degrees. He all of a sudden began swimming upside down and then floating vertically as if he was levitating. He then began gulping sporradically and developed bright red patches all over his body that were hot to the touch (almost like ruptured capillaries) but he did not go to the surface for air like plecos sometimes do. He died that night, but all of my other fish were not affected, it has been two weeks and they are fine, the filter is clean, the ammonia and nitrate levels are clean and the other fish have no paraties. What happened to my pleco?

My tap water seems to be the cause of high nitrate levels in my fish tank. Is there any product I can use to lower these levels or am I going to have to use bottled water(distilled or spring)?

About 6 months ago I bought 2 oscars. One looks like a tiger oscar and one looks like a albino oscar. The albino has grown 4 times it's original size while the other one has barely grown at all. They both seem healthy. I put in a tank seperater because the albino was chasing the little one. I just want to know how long it takes for this little guy to catch up with the other one. Any suggestions.

I have a black moor who I love so much. Today I got home and saw he was fine, then I went to take a shower. When I got out my room mate said he got his tail stuck in the filter. The filter has little tiny slits in it so it kinda scares me how this could have happened. His tail is pretty beat up and his left fin doesn't want to move unless it has to. He's still swimming and I seperated him from my other fish so they wouldn't pick on him. He ate when I fed him, but he tries so hard to get to the bottom, and when he finally makes it he gets tired, floats to the tops, stays there a minute, and then tries to swim to the bottom all over again. I'm scared he's gonna tire himself out. Does he have a chance of making it? And if so, or even if not, is there something I can do to make things easier on him?

My luohan fish is about 23cm,1kg..5 months ago,it gotten white spot...yes i got the best medicine it did cure a little but it became worse..xspecially at the fin and belly area...the belly area has some blood streak..i did buy the medicine 4 it...but it just didn't cure!then about 2 weeks later...it use to be very cheerful...when it sees me it will excitedly rush to the direction where i am...but that time it did not bother about me but he will like go mad splashing the water out and also don't want to eat food not even live food...but just about 3 days later,it jump out of the water and fall on to the floor...and there r blood around him...i thought that it was the bleeding from the internal...then the next day it jump out again...this time there r also blood around it again...when i put back inside the tank...he can't swim...he could only lay flat below the tank...then about 9.15am,it died...Till now i still don't know what had happened...can anyone just tell me what, what had happen?
