they will be fine together as long as you don't put another male Betta in the same tank together you can also add other fish to but make sure they don't eat off the Betta's fins. I have had that happened and the Betta died. When you buy other fish for the tank ask the pet shop dealer for community fish (it just means fish that get along together) Just keep and eye on them and every thing should be fine. Good luck

There are conflicting answers to this question, most people say the beta should be in a tank by itself. But i think it just depends on the beta. I would put the algae eater in the tank and just keep an eye on it for a little while, if you don't see any major problems like the beta pecking at it I think it would be fine. The algae eater usually stay on the sides and bottom of the tank and wont get in the way of the beta. Just try and see if they get along, it seems to be more than enough space for a beta since in the wild the live in puddles and small contained areas. I would also suggest getting a larger tank for the pleco they need plenty of space.

What kind of algae eater is it?

Either way I guess it does not matter. A 7 inch fish is WAAAYYY too big for a 10 gallon tank. So I would say no.

But if you got the ottocinclus catfish, or maybe even a clow pleco, those algae eaters would work just fine in your tank with your betta.

Most Bettas make fine tank mates for other fish, as long the other fish are not labyrinth fish like themselves (that means one Betta per tank, no gouramis, no paradise fish). I keep a Betta with Harlequin Rasboras, khuli loaches, and otocinclus catfish and they all get along fine.

That said, there is always the individual Betta who just doesn't like tank mates, period! But the odds are in your favour that you won't have any problems.

the betta will not harm the algae eater. If the algae eater is pleco, then he needs to be in a bigger tank or the water quality could go south, killing the betta. If the algae eater is a common chinese algae eater, well, he should still be in a bigger tank, but neither fish should harm the other with aggression.

Ignore the people who say bettas will kill anything in the tank. It's a myth. Any betta book or care guide/article will tell you so.

The beta will go for any color, especially on fins. So, if your algae eater has colorful fins then probably not a good idea.
