I have a black moor who I love so much. Today I got home and saw he was fine, then I went to take a shower. When I got out my room mate said he got his tail stuck in the filter. The filter has little tiny slits in it so it kinda scares me how this could have happened. His tail is pretty beat up and his left fin doesn't want to move unless it has to. He's still swimming and I seperated him from my other fish so they wouldn't pick on him. He ate when I fed him, but he tries so hard to get to the bottom, and when he finally makes it he gets tired, floats to the tops, stays there a minute, and then tries to swim to the bottom all over again. I'm scared he's gonna tire himself out. Does he have a chance of making it? And if so, or even if not, is there something I can do to make things easier on him?

I have already taken him out and seperated him as I have already stated above. Thanks for the help so far.

Call your local fish store and ask if anyone knows about hurt fish. Maybe they can help you. If you have a net put it in the water and keep the fish in it close to the top so he doesn't have to swim so far to the bottom. This might help him a little.Good luck!!!!

I'm not sure how much a vet would be of help. Sounds like you just need to give the fish time. Sorry to say he may not heal, but on the other hand you never know the will power of an animal. We had a calico fantail that was injured and blinded in one eye by a larger fish and she survived for a year swimming upside down. Her behavior pattern was very similar. We called her lucky. Say a prayer for his recovery and so will all who read this.
P.s. jen19801976 is right about using the meds, one is called Stress Coat, you just follow the directions on the bottle, it's for injured fish.

the black moor will recover and this is really common because i even see fishes get sucked into fishes in pet stores in much worst situations like the spine was broken in half.
to prevent this from happening again, put something in front of the filter like a sponge so that the currents won't be too strong and the fish can escape, but i don't know if all sponges can qualify because some might contain chemicals but I don't know. Still try to stop the water from flowing too fast that it sucks fish into filters.

i dont know if he has a chance of making it. i have a black moor gold fish (full grown now and i have to use 2 hands to pick him up to transfer to a smaller tank when i clan my larger one, no nets on the market are large enough lol!) but he got tail rot when he was a little guy. practially all of his fins were gone. i bought this medicine (which you wont need) fromt he pet store called marcyn.
but after the symptoms of tail rot went away i started to treat him with melafix. which helps rebuild damdged fins (it a tea tree oil i think) but it works wonders. he got tail rot a gain a liottle while ago i only used melafix this time and his symotoms went away.
also is there a strong current int the tank he is in now? if so try to make it weaker.. but could also only have a swim bladder problem.
hop he gets better!
good luck

I have had a few fish do this too, when they are weak they get stuck to the intake. Try to slow down the intake speed if you can. He may make it, go to the pet store and get a product to protect and restore the slime on the skin. There are also meds out there that help to heal open sores. I hope he makes it, all the best.

Need to separate your fish from the genereal population
get a small net box that fits in the tank - used for swordtails that are pregnant - and take the 'V' out that keeps the babies from the mom
can't remember what its called - but should only be a few bucks
best of luck

The bouyancy problem is probably what cause your fish to get into trouble. A salt water dip may help with the new injuries, but the swimbladder problem is what real needs attention, try googleing fish diseases for some insights as to what may help. Good luck,PeeTee

He will be just fine. Maybe treat with a little bit of melafix so he doesn't get infected.
