if i leave my aquarium light on, will it make algae?

Algae needs both light & the appropriate nutriments to be present. Excess light will encourage algae, but it should not become a nuisance unless there is too much Phosphate present. You could use a phosphate remover in your filter. In the wild state, fish get about 8 hours of light per day & this is what you should aim for.

It can depend on several factors. Do you also have a heater in the fish tank?
Algae can grow easily in an aquarium, it can make a difference how many fish you have, the type you have, etc.

But yes, the light can cause the algae to grow faster than normal.

Yep, I would recommend leaving the light on for no more than 4 hours a day. Thats what I do, some times a lil more or less, doing great so far. And if you get an Algae Eater, once they get so big they wont eat the algae any more. Person experience there. Good luck with them tho! (c:
