I have a 20 gallon tank currently housing on angelfish. In the beginning I kept one golden mystery snail that lived for a good 6 years!!! When he departed this world, I replaced it with a ramshorn snail that lived for a little more than a year. When it joined our Lord in heaven, I purchased a white mystery snail who made it only a few months. I am now snail-less. One thing I've noticed is that all these snails had holes in their shells. I was already aware of this danger prior to keeping snails. I was told by the "experts" that placing a clean oyster shell in the tank would provide them with the calcium necessary to maintain their shells. This I did. "Dr. Turtle" was also recommended by these same "Experts" for the same reason even though it's obviously intended for turtles. I've also tried that a few times. Before I purchase a new snail, I'd like more info on their needs. I love snails; they're my favorite animals and I hate to see them die. Please help the snails! Thanks.

Has anyone ever tried this? My betta is in a one gallon bowl, I was thinking a hermit crab under the tank heater from petco- its 8 watts, I would buy a thermometer to regulate the temperature and keep an eye on it when I was home, If not how bout a heat lamp or any other ideas for keeping my poor betta warm?

I Have a bunch of Magnum 350's. I've been using a combination of pre-cut filter pads and aquarium poly-fill to strain the water before it gets to the carbon/micron cartridges. Is there anything better or cheaper out there?

I'm getting my pads for $1.25 on ebay, and 1lb bags of polyfiber for $3 at a local pet warehouse.

I was considering trying to put quilt batting in the mix. Has anybody used quilt batting or any other alternative materials with a canister filter?

This morning we observed a baby gold fish and some eggs in our fish bowl along with other fishes. We fear other fishes may eat the young ones. Is that true? What precautions are needed at this stage? What other care is needed for the baby fish?

I had this fish medicine to cure the white spot and itch but the bottle doesn't say any expiry date on it. I had it since 2004 or 2005, do you think I can still use it or is it expired already? cause in the bottle it doesnt show any expiry date and Im afraid it will kill my fish if used.
