Really depends on the species of fish. Certain male fish are more colourful. Others can be smaller or larget or leaner or in the case of livebearing fish, an obvious gonopodium (a little fin that acts like a tube to transfer sperm into the female).
So it'll be easier to know what species of fish you are looking at first.

It mostly depends of the species of the fish but I'll give you some tips to diference male and female fishes.
Usually males are a lot more colorful than the females. They have more intese colors and stronger patterns.
Sometimes fins are also a big diference between males and females. Males such as bettas have super big fins.
Another diference is in the shape of the body.
Also, very rarely the behaviour of the fish is their only diference, but as I said it is very rare.
