The Guppy fish is probably the most popular aquarium species in the world. Small, beautiful, peaceful, lively, curious and hardy, there are many colorful variations that can be collected and easily bred. The Guppy fish is one of the best choices for beginners, especially children.
Guppy females are much larger and rounder than males. They even do not look like one species. Females are dull grey and males are very colorful and have large fins. There are many types of Guppy fish and with breeding you can get new variants. In size they are: 4.0 - 6.0 cm ( 1.6 - 2.3 in).
Guppy fish can be feed a wide variety of foods (flakes, Spirulina, lettuce, spinach, freeze dried foods, mosquito larvae). They eat almost everything. Guppies have small stomachs and can only consume a little bit of food at one feeding. By the way, it is entertaining to watch them eat larvae, which are almost as big as Guppies. They eat them like big spaghetti. It is best is to feed them in small amounts at least 3 times daily.
When males and females are together they will breed. The males will perform a courtship display in front of the female by spreading their fins and curving their body. The Guppies are livebearers. Fry can fend for themselves immediately after they are born. As a matter of fact, the guppy fry are a delicacy to most fish. Floating plants are good hiding places for fry. Female guppies mature in about 3 months, males mature sooner. A female’s period lasts about 4 weeks. They are quick breeders, so if you have only Guppies in the tank, they can over breed.
Guppy fish require fairly warm temperatures (23-24 °C, 82-84°F), but they can live in water between 19.0 - 29.0°C (69 - 86 °F) and quiet vegetated water for survival. They are community fish. It is good to have more than 5 Guppies in a tank. It is recommended to have 1 male to 3 females. They seem to be annoying to other fish in the tank, because they often follow other fish around incessantly, but they do no harm. Only sometimes other fish bite their fins. And some big fish can eat them. So be careful what fish is in the tank with them. The water in the tank should be the pH 7.0 - 8.5 and DH of water dGH 12.0 - 18.0 °N.

Just because it says there are only females doesn't mean that that is true. If you want to keep the little ones you need to get a fish nursery. It is a square mesh container that fits inside the tank. You then put the pregnant fish in the nursery and wait for her to give birth. You need to remove the mother after this or she will eat the babies. That is the purpose of the nursery, to keep the other fish from eating them. In the wild they could hide in vegetation so the fish/predators could not eat them. The other option is to just wait till she gives birth and then collect the babies and put them in the nursery. Food wise they are pretty much just like the adults, and will eat the same thing. The only thing that matters is fi they can get the food in their mouth. Once they get big enough that the other fish cannot eat them you release them from the nursery.

You could have bought pregnant fish, that is very common w/ guppies. They are mature enough to mate at only months old. You know if they are pregnant if their stomachs look like they are about to pop. You can contact your local petstore to find out if you can bring them back if they are pregnant. Hope this helps!!

Guppies and other livebearers can store sperm in their bodies. They can continue using the stored sperm to get pregnant several times for 6 months to a year after being seperated from all males. This way the species doesn't die out.

Your females may already be pregnant as they often travel together with males or are not sorted properly. The way to tell if they are expecting is to look at the back of their abdomen, near the base of the tail. If they start getting a dark roughly triangular spot there...their pregnant. If you want to look up more, its called a gravid spot;
