I have a wisper filter and I love it, I was wondering how you like it. And I was thinking about getting one of those little clearner shrimp, should I or should I not?

I too use Whisper filters on several tanks and over all I like them. I have been using them since Sea Kings went off the market back on the 70's. Even though I like the Whispers, sometimes I wish I still had my old Sea Kings.

Cleaner shrimp can do a service for you tank eating some algea and bits of food from the gravel. They can be fun to watch as well. Do be careful and remember that some fish would see a shrimp as food.

Best of luck

Ive sold Whisper filters for over 9yrs. I have a few at home, but only use them, as back ups, because I replaced them with Aqua Clear. I mostly use wet/dry filters, but they're expensive.
As an external filter, I really prefer the AquaClears. They hold about 75 times more charcoal then a whisper cartridge does. They seem to only hold a little over a tablespoon, verses the aqua clears having the entire bag filled. Carbon has many tiny holes all through it and as your tank gets particles and gunk, they go through your filter cartridge and get stuck in those little holes, filing it until eventually it wont hold any in the charcoal. Sometimes you can rinse out a cartridge to get longer use from it, but only so much will wash out of the little dents and holes. The amount of debris that charcoal can hold is what keeps your aquarium looking clear. There are a few other brands that are ok as well, but I just personally think Aqua Clears last longer as far as impeller replacement, and your getting more for your money. I also sugest to people when selling a tank set up, if you want less maintanence, and a better biological system, to use an undergravel filter, with a small powerhead on top of it. (if you have a small tank, under 20 gallons, you can just use the undergravel off your air pump.)
Ok this ended up being a longer answer then I planned, lol. As far as the shrimp..they are fun to watch if they arent hiders. Just make sure you have adequate food supply. Happy fishing..

I have 3 whisper filters and compared to my aquaclears or penguin, they suck. The cartridges need to be replaced more often then my others because it actually falls apart, where as my others have never even been replaced yet. That not only cost me more money but I'm basically throwing away my beneficial bacteria that keep my fish safe. They also don't clean like they used to, after being used for more then a week the flow slows down and even after cleaning it will never be like new again.
About the shrimp, I don't know since I have never had them.

i always like a quiet home so a filter and air pump are a real hard choosing process for me. i do love the whisper filters and wont use anything otherwise except when i buy deluxe tanks b/c theyre cheaper. as for shrimp, the ghost shrimp creep me out theyre so small and ghostly. id like to have one b/c its odd looking but how would i ever find the guy in my tank hes so clear ya know. so i stick to my algea eater and korydoras but if you dont mind not seeing him sometimes then go 4 it

Personaly I don't like the wiper becase of it's bio bag. most of the water misses the carbon. Ihave a penguin 150 bio wheel for my 10 gal. and the bio wheel never needs replacing unlike bio foam. The cartreges are filled with carbon and the ribbed back make the water come in contact with the carbon. For the shrimp it needs to be salt water and you must have an artifitial reef and dirty suff(algea and poop.) It depends on the condition of your tank.

i have a bamboo (flower , filter, wood, singapore) shrimp -- if you have plants he can hang on to i would highly recommend one. plastic tall grasses would be fine. they filter and eat stuff out of your water with little filters they have on their front legs. they were all brown in the pet store but mine is a lot more red now. the smaller ones end up disappearing if you have larger fish.

you could get the shrimp anyway. they are cool looking and fun to watch. if your worried that your filter works too good and your shrimp ar algae eaters have nothing to clean up...you can aways but algae flakes or whatever it is that shrimp eat...?
hmmmm...i wonder what they do eat. thats a good yahoo! question!
