Okay, so i bought a beta fish at the mall today, admittedley without thinking. so i don't have any food for him. YES I KNOW I'M DUMB. i think i can buy fish-food for him tomorow, and the lady i bought him from said that i only need to feed him every other day. but just to be safe, beacuse i don't know if she feed him yesterday, what can i feed him to tide him over?

I have a lot of hard spot algae, and it showed up about the same time my fish got Ick. How can I keep this from coming back and overtaking my tank again? I've been scraping it off with a metal spatula, but it's still all over my tank furniture....

I just started a new tank and doing further internet research realized I might have gotten some bad advice.

For my 2.5 gallon coldwater (freshwater) tank, the guy at the store recommended that I get two female bettas as he didn't have any good goldfish to sell me that were small enough. He told me they should be fine in that size of tank, and in that temperature of water. I guess time will tell!

My question is about the power filter. Do I need to run it all the time or can I run it intermittenly (I have a gravel bottom) as I read that they prefer still water?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Does putting more carbon in an out of tank filter help promote bacterial growth, or does it just take up space.
I don't mean that I don't have any in the filter-I have all of what comes in the filter pack, but I'm wondering if it is a good idea to put another pack of carbon in the same filter?

I got two aquababies for Christmas and I was wondering if it would be okay to put them in a small fishbowl? They're like frogs but they have to be taken care of like a fish. I just dont know if they need to be kept in a small container like the one I got them in (about 3x5x5 in. container) or if I could get a bigger bowl so they'd have more room.

Also, they need to have bacteria gravel? What is this and can it be any kind or do I have to buy a certain type?

Thanks!

I have a needlefish, a red pacu, a tiger oscar, a leporinus, a plecostamus (sp?), and a number of feeder rosies. What are safe live plants that I can add to my tank without hurting my fish, and that won't get destroyed by them?

My sons recieved a 2 gallon tank for xmas with no heater, and a cheesy filter system. It's a decent little starter set up I guess. I keep it about 70 in the house (no lower!) and the water would be about the same. The light also heats it a little. I know quite a bit about fish since I grew up with them, but it's been years since I've kept them.

Would a school of neons or zebras do ok without heat? How about some platys, mollys or swordtails? What about a catfish or alge eater? Any other exotic kinds that could do good in such a small, colder tank? How many would be a good number to keep? I'd rather stay away from goldfish, and I can't have two male betas. I can't have any agressive fish either (ie, barbs, oscars, etc.) since I have 2 sons, and have to have at least 2 fish.

I just need suggestions as to what would be good fish for a cold 2 gallon (non heated but about 70 deg.) tank, besides goldfish and betas.
Thank you in advance for your help!
;o)

Please tell me what I am doing wrong. Since putting fishes inside (a total of 4 big gold fishes + 2 scavengers) I am only giving food twice daily in the morning and evening.

Pump is working well, lights are working well. Cleaning tank is not a problem but the tank is quite big (approx. 500 Ltr) hence it is quite a work which I don't want to do unless I know what is the problem.

Can anybody suggest how can I get this fixed?
