We had a freshwater tank for awhile and did real well with it. We are now starting up a saltwater tank. We currently have a 20gallon, but if all goes well we will definitly go much, much bigger. We have the salt in the water and it's filtering at the moment, but are wondering when can we add fish? Also, what are the levels in ammonia, PH, nitrate and nitrite that we are looking for? The hydrometer is good, just wanting to know the chemicals. Also, what fish do you recommend? Is there anything else we should know about? Thanks for your help!!!

I got a hatchery from the petstore, and it came with packets of pre-mixed brine shimp eggs and salt. I ordered some good eggs but these eggs from the pre-mixed packets have a really crappy hatch rate; probably less than 50%. Is there a way I can separate the eggs from the brine shrimp so I don't put all those eggs into my tank?

As in will one attack/eat the other if I put them in the same tank? I have this pretty big aquarium, and currently I only have 3 goldfish in it. I want to buy about a dozen neon fish and probably half a dozen more goldfish, and I just want to know if they will attack each other if I do that.

i just set up my tank, ran it empty for a few days and then went and got the fish. On friday i got 6 fancy guppies, and then got 6 more plus a pletc. on saturday. I noticed sunday morning that the room where the tank is stinks really bad! i checked the filter and tank for dead fish...nothing! They all seem to be acting normal and none are discolored. Why does it stink so bad? Ohh, and its not a small tank.

my son poured the whole thing of fish food in thier tank a few weeks ago, so i cleaned it out yesterday, completely changing the water and cleaned everything and i woke up this morning and they are all dead.... ive had them for a little over a year, its sad :(

anyways the question behind this....what did i do wrong? the water was 74 degrees, 2 degrees over what it should be, but i put them in a bag of their old water so that they could get used to the new temp. and once their old water was the temp. of thier new water i put them in the tank.....so that shouldnt have killed them...right??

should i change the water again before i put new fish in there??
please help, i dont want anymore fish dying!!

I was at the pet store the other day and saw an "I love you" fish. It looked like a chubby, all white gold fish but it had the words "I <3 U" on the side of it, like it was painted on! I can't find anything about it on the internet, what's the deal with this fish?

I am petsitting a fish for my neighbors while they are away. The fish is probably new because the "tank" is just a small basic jar with water and the goldfish in it. There is no filter. I need to change the water every other day, but they never left specific details. I do not own a fish and I need to know.
a) Is tap water ok to use, if not then what kind of water?
b) What should the temperature of the water be? (hot, warm, cool, cold)
c) is there anything else I need to know?
I have petsit fish that have filters so I know how to feed the fish, but I need advice on changing the water.
Thank you

Was considering bringing my betta to work but was concerned about it not getting fed on the weekends - especially, if they usually get fed twice a day. Was told by PetSmart not to worry about it and that bettas can go longer without food and still be okay. A co-worker of mine has one on her desk and says she's gone 4 days before without feeding hers. I haven't brought mine to work yet though. Don't have the heart to starve the little thing 2 out of 7 days every week. Would love to hear from others who possibly have a betta at work and don't feed it every day.
