You've gotten some good answers ( I liked the Holy Water one!). I would only add that instead of chlorine tablets, you could just scoop out your fish in a little bowl of his own water, clean the bowl out, fill it with fresh water and let that water air for a couple hours before you put your fish back in the bowl. This will help to get some of the chemicals out and bring the water to room temperature. Happy Goldfishing!

Unless they are the fancy type goldfish, a regular fish bowl will work out quite well, provided that you keep the water clean and change it frequently. I kept a regular gold fish for 2 years in a plain goldfish bowl.

Goldfish are carp - very hardy fish that can survive in almost anything. I would just change the water at least 1x/week to replenish the oxygen levels or if you can get some live plants and/or a pump to move the water this will help.

No. Bettas are bread to survive in a low oxygen environment . Goldfish require more oxygen in the water they'll also require a filter to remain healthy as they produce more waste. Goldfish can stay in an unaerated bowl for a while but it isn't recomended.

Well betta fish need distilled water. I just used regular tap water for my goldfish and she lived for five years :) Just make sure you clean it once or every other week.

Sure, just get the chlorout stuff from a pet store and you can keep him in regular water. Be careful though if you put your fish in a big bowl it might get huge! I did that and my fish ended up being over a foot long!

yeah you can, that guy is an idiot tryin to be sarcastic.
but when you clean it (you probably know this) && your tryin to put the fish back in the bowl then you have to put the bag in the new water, lol that makes no sence. like. ah. when your cleaning it && you take it out && put it in a bag.. well after you clean the bowl && put new water in it put the fish back in while its in the bag. so it will get used to the water without a shock. after about 15 minutes you can take it out of the bag && put it in the bowl.
