okay heres the deal. My guppy is pregnant and I am going to get probably somewhere from 10-20 gal tank to keep hte guppys in as they grow. I want to be able to cycle it so the babys wont be the first ones in there. I want to put a some other fish(because the adult guppys would eat the fry) to cycle it but I want to be able to keep it in with the fry. What fish wont eat the fry and how long do they need to be in there before it is cycled enough for the fry to go in.(i will probably just use the breeding net at first but the seperate tank would be for as the grow but arnt large enough to be in twith the parents)

I have some goldfish and shabumpkins (not sure of the spelling of that one) which I keep in a tank indoors. Now I know that they are cold water fish, but there has to be a point at which it is too cold for them and they will die. I have no central heating and the house is very cold at the moment, and it is likely to get much colder as the weather gets worse - so my question is how cold does it have to be before the fish die?

I don't have any means to get heating so that isn't an option and I can't get a job because I have had cancer. I will get a heater for the fish tank soon but in the mean time I would be very grateful it if someone can let me know the answer to this question.

My black mystery snail (I belive it's an apple snail) hasn't moved, let alone come one of the shell, for several days. I have been battling ammonia in my tank, so if it's dead, that's probably the cause. But how can I be certain it's dead. Also, does the decaying snail add to the ammonia? If indeeed it's dead, should I just leave it there or dispose of it?

I've changed the water to only 2 inches left in the tank. replaced the filter mediums and thoroughly cleaned thesides and the filter box. I've even removed most of the fish to another tank, making it overpopulated. I've covered it for 48 hours to keep it dark. And I've even added extra air by an air stone. Nothing seems to work. Any other suggestions?

I moved to a new town and set up my long successful freshwater aquarium with tetra fish. I had a very hard time getting the water chemicals to balance and they pet shop finally told me that the water where I live is really not workable for aquariums because of the chemicals. All of the fish died, despite my experienced efforts.

We have a goldfish that we just use spring water for in a bowl and he is nearly 5 years old! So, I know spring water is ok for that type of fish.

Does anyone know that if I start with spring water and work from there, would it be ok for tetras? Would I even need chemicals??

I have a some Glowlight Danios that are really great. My problem is that one is especially aggressive. He (or so I assume due to coloring, shape and size) is the biggest one and chases all of the other danios around the tank. He eats up most of the food so not everyone gets an even amount. Is he just playing around or is this a problem? There have not been any injuries so far but I do worry about the other danios.

I noticed yesterday that a few of our fish have bubbles on their bodies. They are in a tropical tank - which we have had for a year. We have never encountered any problems but today, we have 5 dead fish... I think the Silver dollars are about to go too. The hardy Molly's seem ok so far

I am looking to create a fishtank, likely an octagon tank, with 4 to 5 veiltail goldfish...

This will be my first 'serious' fishtank... what all will I need, and how big of a tank will I be needing?

I have read that you have to be very carefull with tank 'decor' because of how fragile their fins can be...

Any help would be great, will I need some other type of fish in there as well to help keep the tank clean?

Or will just the 5 veiltail goldfish be enough?

I am kinda clueless here and any help would be great... thanks.

My new fresh water tank contains 2 gouramies, 7 platies and 4 loaches plus an algae eater. Until now I have seen no problems between species. I wish to add 2 colourful discus to the tank. Will this cause any problems? Is it preferable to have 1 male and 1 female or rather 2 females to avoid any chasing around in the tank?
