Could be fin rot, or could be they're picking on each other. Should get a test kit, and test your water parameters-ammonia should be 0 ppm, nitrites 0 ppm, and nitrates under 20 ppm. If the water is poor, then you'll know it's probably fin rot. And try watching them to see if they're fighting. If they are picking on each other, probably should consider rehoming some. Be sure to do weekly water changes to keep the water quality good. Also pick up some MelaFix-regardless if it's fighting or fin rot. Should help the fins to get better.

"Catfish" is an particularly super type (hundreds of distinctive species). even though this is easily authentic that some catfishes have a toxin linked with their fin spines, and the toxin gets decrease than your dermis if the fin backbone puctures the exterior. this is greater widely authentic that obtaining caught with a catfish backbone hurts something loopy, and the wound can actual get contaminated (because of the fact it buries grimy stuff decrease than your dermis). So sure, catfish spines can sting you. circumvent them whilst fishing, or whilst dealing with aquarium catfish.

Catfish fins grow back quickly, and some catfish are very territorial, so check water and compatibility. Finrot is sneaky, one rarely sees a textbook case.

If you have the kind of catfish that can stand salt, koshersalting the water might help them heal.

I had this same thing were a few of my cory cats were completely missing some fins, They never grew back, but they really didn't seem to mind, but this was not as serious as your problem
