Have just bought a second hand fish tank - I will be cleaning it with vinegar and then letting the filter run through it for a couple of weeks. Should I then add plants and let them settle in before I start adding fish or do the plants need the fish to thrive

For the last couple of days he has been acting like he is broken. He trys to swim but he just can't go any where. I changed his water and put him in a smaller tank hoping he would rest. I don't know what to do!!!! I read that if you put them in the freezer he will just go to sleep, is this true?? I don't think I can murder him, any other suggestions???

I am trying to find a protein skimmer to fit my 20 gal hex tank without resorting to a sump setup. Do I really need one? I have only 4 fish, live rock and mushroom corals in the tank and want to add some hermits and snails and shrimp to it.

Im looking into getting a small peaceful cichlid like a ram(German Blue Ram/ German Gold Ram)! i have 4 guppies, 5 glolight tetras, 2 marble shrimp, one african dwarf frog, and a mystery snail! Is this ok? And any other types of cichlid or cichlid like fish would be good for my tank? Also if i get a male German Blue Ram and a Female German Gold Ram will they mix and be fine?

I had 2 fantails and an albino loach. I noticed my loach's scales began to "fall off" or something...he died the next day. This also began to happen to my other fish. Thier scales seemed to be separating from their body, they also died shortly after. Anyone know what this is, how it happened, and how it could have been prevented?
I cleaned my water regularly and replaced filters on time.

wat is an aquarium air pump for? does it help keep ur tank clean too? how do u install one for a one gallon tank? ( i hav seen some air pumps for one gallon tanks but i dont know wat is the use of them......)answer all of the questions please...

My luohan fish (flower horn) is a great fish - v human in nature and will welcome us when we come back. He's down with swim bladder problem. lie on his side most of the time. eat little, gasping for air and has changed his color. try his best to swim when turned upright but after a few secs will have to lie down. Brought to vet who gave daily injections of methylcobalamin for 2 weeks. He said it's too late and is fatal. Now back home for rehab. Any one has suggestions and advice for help ? pls don't give answers like - ' don't u think he's dead ?' that's just silly and insensitive. Need real solutions in treating the nerve problem - apparently nerve supply to the swim bladder is damaged. would steroid injections help ? if so, what dose ? again, pls provide answers if you have solutions. thanks.

I have 2 goldfish and 2 plecos in a tank on a dresser and one of the plecos is being very strange. This has happened before but this morning I came into my room and turned on the light and it flipped our, swimming all over, jumping out of the water (but still in the tank) and just going crazy. Now, I just opened a drawer and it did it again. I know the water is not right currentely, since I just got them from my sister and it's really bad right now. Is this why it's acting so weird? I don't even want these fish but I don't want them to just die (or give me a heart attack from freaking me out) so what should I do? I've been treating the water with chemicals to change the pH and water hardness, and my sister has done this before.

Has anyone had this happen before? This is my first real fistank and I don't know what's normal. I'm better with mammals....

I have a 50 gal. tank and a top of the line filter so I don't think that the amonia and waste will be a prob.
I have 4 goldfish and they are pretty big and I have one pleco I would like to know what other fish other than goldfish I could put in there?
I had a african clawed frog but I think they ate him :(

Does anyone know how do I grow plants on driftwood/other aquarium wood??
I saw these people in the aquarium store did it. They grow a bunch of small plants on some dried wood. It looks like a drift wood to me.
Anyone have any idea how? and what kind of plants I need?

how can u prevent dirty fish tanks every other two days? i dont feed my fish a lot and it makes a big mess. and since the fish need the right bactiria in their tank, can u let them make the tank dirty as they want it. (not as in make it dirty as in really dirty.) cause it looks pretty cloudy in their tank every other 2 days...answer all questions please

I've heard you can dye beta...? My fiance and I would like purple beta at our reception, but we didn't find any that color at the store. How do you do that? Or are there purple ones; then, where would we find them? Thanks!

I have 2 gold wonder killies (can be somewhat agressive) and a gold gourami. I want to make my 20 gal tank more visually interresting by adding different colors (or at least one) and having fish that don't just hang arount at the top. And eating algae would be useful, too.
