Are they sick or is it a fatal deformity? About 30% seem to be afflicted and from past experience they will fade and die in a couple of weeks. From 500+ eggs I have approx 80 month-old babies. The affected ones still eat and seem normal except they lack balance and boyancy and struggle to stay off the bottom. They are growing normally but will soon slow down. Is this natural or a bacterial thing? The rest seem fine. Water quality is excellent and I use a UV sterilizer. Diet right now is live brine shrimp several times a day and care is taken to keep food clean, no shells or unhatched eggs. Seems to happen every batch to some extent. Any thought would be appreciated. By the way I have mastered raising from eggs to day 7 at about 95% but only about a 20% conversion to brine shrimp from day 7 to 12. Mortality drops to almost zero until this suspected swim bladder issue shows up at about day 21. Help, Thanks, Peter.

I just got a new tank, i set it up and got it all filled with water, i put some plant bulbs in it, and now it has been sitting for one day, i am going to put fish in it tomorrow just so that bacteria start growing, the problem is that im at college and i have a four week break coming up, it is unreasonable for me to take the whole tank back with me, so i am going to give the fish to a friend who will take care of it, (he is taking his tank home). will not a having any fish in the tank kill off all the bacteria, and also should i take the plants out before i leave?

I have 3 Green Spotted Puffer fish in a 30 gallon aquarium. Who else owns this type of fish? Do you have any other fish in the same tank? I had some bumble bee gobies, but they were eaten about a month later. It seems like they will eat just about any other kind of brackish fish out there. I feed them brine shrimp, guppies, and worms from outside, along with snails. What do you feed yours and do you grow your own snails? How? Any other cool information you would like to share about them?

on one fish the scales got bloated and she lived for about 2 weeks. She turned on her side and then would swim and then lay and start turning on her side again. Another fish quit eating and then got white spots that looked like lint and it sort of looked like a hole developing on him. He didn't eat for 2 weeks and laid on the bottom of the pond. He died yesterday. Also their eyes look really weird.

In my new 160-Liter fresh water tank the plants have brown-grey, small, round shaped, dust-like substance on their leaves. The same thing started showing up also on the artificial rock in the tank. Is this a plant disease? What should I do about it? Thanks for the responses.

Thanks firstly for the advice I received on a similar question.

I have some more things i'm a bit concerned about though. I went to the pet shop where I bought my two fantails from (on the 13th) and took in a sample of water from the tank. The ph level was 6.6 which was ok apparently, but the nitrate (toxic) test and the ammonia test were at dangerous levels.

I've had regular goldfish before, without having a filter and i never had problems like i'm having with these guys.

They are both still sitting for hours at a time on the bottom of the tank, the boy has now developed fin rot, (i bought a bottle of treatment for this this morning) but i'm concerned about them dying on me.

The girl at the shop said to use the treatment for daily for 7 days and do a 20% water change after this then if he hasn't improved continue with the treatment for a further 7 days.
