I just bought one of those rinky dink little ponds from walmart, and plan on only placing 2 Koi in there due to its size. The question is, how hardy are these fish, mostly, whats the lowest temperature they can stand? Thanks.

I got an elephant nose fish two days ago. I put it in a tank with other peaceful fish, cat fish, kissers, mollies. It stayed hovering around at the back of the tank behind the plants and didn't eat anything. I saw this mornign that it had passed away in the night. I'm at a loss to know why. No chemicals have been added to the tank and the other fish are fine (touch wood) What usually kills these fish? Has anyione kept them before and they've died for no apparent reason? Also in my other tank i have one choclate guorami fish, it is lonely does anyone know any shops that sell these rare fish (I live in bristol)

At the back of my swordtail the sword has been cut short and the tail fin has been split a few times.
I have him in the breeder away from the fish that is causing this.
It is a neon swordtail inside the trap at the moment and i think the one causing the damage was another neon male.
I know that you should keep females with them and i have 3 females and two males. Should i buy a few more females (i have plenty of space in the tank) or take the offending one back.
The other thing i must ask is will the fins and sword grow back?

Thanks

I just happened to read the answers to the other questions posted here and since i too have a fish tank i would like to know 2-3 things
1. my tank lights are always on 24 hrs - last 4 years or so... do i need to put them off in the nights - i put them off only while cleaning the fishtank which depends on how dirty the water looks.
2. i have 3 big catfishes and and 3-4 fishes of the goldfish variety, i just read about the sucker ( plecostomus ) cleaning the tanks... can i add that to my fish tank, earlier i had many fishes goldfish, suckers, angel fish but they all died one by one.
3. I also read about people adding snails and frogs to their fish tanks... tell me how helpful would that be
Thanks,

We have a 5 1/2 year old goldfish that lost a few scales when he got stuck between the fish tank and the filter tube. He has a little red spot where the scales came off.

Hi -

I added an African Dwarf frog to my 29 gallon tropical aquarium about 3-4 weeks ago. He was an active little frog and appeared to be getting bigger when all of a sudden he died.

I was feeding him according to the instructions from the fish store (1/2 piece of tubeworm cubes every other day and a pinch of bloodworms about 2-3 times per week). It's a fresh water, tropical tank. I keep it at about 74-76F. It has live plants, a filter, lots of gravel and natural rocks.

The other fish in the tank are neon tetras, velvet swords and 2 plecostamus (sp?). He didn't look like he'd been attacked or nibbled on.

Any idea what I might have done wrong? Did I not feed enough? Too much? Wrong water temp?

I'd like to know before I get another one.

Thanks!

I have an african dwarf frog - and I got a Beta. At first they weren't too crazy about each other, but then they were okay. Then, the Beta died. I don't know if it was too cold or too crowded for the fish? I'd bought a new plant for the tank and it took up a lot of space. I've trimmed it back, but I don't know if I should get a new fish or if it's too cold? I don't have a heater currently, but the house never gets below 65.

Any ideas or tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

One of my fish, a pink kissing gurami, has been getting bit on by other fish. Her name is Cecilia. She has sugar-like crystals on her fins and body. My Mom says this is probably "ick", a disease that fishes get easy. I know I can get medicine for the water, we will do that tommorrow. The fish that we have in our tank are a green spotted puffer, catfish, a little orange fish (not gold fish), and a female guppy. I know, I know. Horrible combination. I've tried to convince my Mom to seperate them, but she won't. We did have a male beta but he got his fin ripped by another fish. We put him in a bowl alone, but soon he died. :( What should I do? Does Cecilia have Ick? Should I just get the medicine and forget about it?
