At the back of my swordtail the sword has been cut short and the tail fin has been split a few times.
I have him in the breeder away from the fish that is causing this.
It is a neon swordtail inside the trap at the moment and i think the one causing the damage was another neon male.
I know that you should keep females with them and i have 3 females and two males. Should i buy a few more females (i have plenty of space in the tank) or take the offending one back.
The other thing i must ask is will the fins and sword grow back?

Thanks

You need at leat 3 females to each male and even then the males may fight. I had exactly the same problem with my 2 males ( and I have more than enough females to keep them busy!), luckily I have a choice of 4 tanks to remome him in...:)
The fin damage will hopefully heal but will not regrow.

The fins may grow back depending on how badly they are damaged. you should try to have at least two females for every male, but swordtails can get fairly aggressive with each other.

you should have at least 2 females per male, and yes the fins and sword will grow back, it takes time, but it will

yes the fins grow back.males are very fiesy when it comes to their females just as with guppies they should have atleast 4 females each but remember they breed easy too so thats lots of babies so remember to have plenty of plants for them to hide in also plastic pan scrubers unraveled a wee bit (you know the ball type)make good hiding place for babies .float one on the top of your tank.
