My daughters hooded goldfish has a very red belly - just started this morning. Is it sick? pregnant? It has always been a little funny acting - likes to sleep on it's back by the filter. Is it sick or is this normal?

Surprise! another oscar question from me, i just want as much imformation as possible. Does anyone have any tips on how to decorate an oscar tank? Please don't just copy stuff from websites, I am able to recognize it. I was wondering good ways to decorate their tank, like gravel compared to sand, is it better to put a large item in the middle rather than rocks on the sides of the tank ect. I saw a small one at a petsmart, and until i am getting a larger tank, he will go into a 29 gallon, please give me awnsers or stories to any oscar you have had. Anything you have beside tanksizes, i know all about them.

If I put all of the fish in at the same time (3-4 gouramis, 1 betta) to prevent the fish from being too territorial and if they "grow up" together and I provide lots of hiding places for the fish, do you think gouramis and bettas will do well together? In my opinion, gouramis don't have long fins... and aren't usually very colorful (with some exceptions.) Has anyone ever kept those two together successfully? Can they live together?

And for those of you who are beginners and think that bettas can't be placed with ANY other fish, you're wrong. Bettas get along well with most fish that don't have long fins and aren't too colorful.

Help me?

Thanx

i just got a 5 gallon tank a couple of days ago, i got it all set up and ready to go for a couple freshwater tropical fish and let it sit for a day. then i read about how the tank needs to cycle so i am going to wait 6-8 weeks to get any more fish, but i got one beta fish to put in there. i am wondering if i should turn the air pump off because he doesnt need the air, but i want to know if that will impede the necesarry bacteria from growing? i also have a filter that makes some bubbles

We set up the 55 gal tank, got 2 starter fish (guppies, which had babies the next day lol) and things were fine. After about a month we decided to get more fish (Tetras mostly, for a total of 12 fish and 2 babies that survived.. added a few fish at a time over 3 weeks) Since we got all the fish (about 4 weeks now) There has been this orange "stuff" accumulating on all the plants and ornaments, and splotches showing up on the glass. I originally thought the flakes (tetramin) were staining everything, but thats never happened in aquariums i've owned in the past. I don't think I'm over feeding, the fish appear to be happy... Anyone have any clue whats going on, or what i can do to stop it? I can email a couple pictures if requested.

... I do clean the tank, doing a 10% water change and cleaning all the plants and whatnot every 2 weeks. All water tests come back fine.

I am doing everything by the book. My first 4 fish died within a week of getting them. I treated them as soon as they started showing signs of illness and the pet shop confirmed that my water was fine. I bought a new tank, set it up as it said on the box and got 4 replacement fish. I had to hospitalise Jeremy kyle in the old tank as he got whitespot within a week and I had to get the ammonia level down as it was dangerously high - I have tested the water regularyl and done water changes as per the user guides, i cut down the feeding to once a day. Another of my Bogle-Bogle-Bogle has just died suddenly after showing no symptoms. I treated both tanks with whitespot care when Jeremy Kyle first showed symtoms. The water is still fine and Jeremy Kyle appears to be on the mend too .. but what is it that I'm doing for my fish to keep getting ill / dying??

I just bought a 35 gallon fish tank and I am trying to get everything perfect before I put the fish in. It is a freshwater tropical tank. I read I should try and get it to 7.0, but the PH has continued to stay at 7.6 after numerous times of adding PH down (We've been doing that for 2 days.) What should I do to lower it???

*I plan to add mosty barbs and tetras.

This growth it is raised and blue on the outer ring and it gets white in the middle. It's gotten bigger in the last two weeks, and now I've noticed that fish lost his appetite. I've been changing his water biweekly 100%. He is in a flower vase which holds about a gallon of water, no plants just glass pebles and a piece of coral. I've been using filtered water but not using any additives or conditioners for the water. What can this "growth" be and can it be treated? I also take some advice about the kepp of the beta fish. Thanks

I have 3 female and 2 male guppies in a 10 gallon tank. I keep the water at about 78 degrees, amonnia 0 nitrite 0 dont know nitrate (clean the tank 10-20% every week). the ph is around 7.7 or 7.8. I keep aquarium salt in the water...the fish are flourishing and doing well. WHat else do I need to do to get them to have little baby guppies? Oh...they are fed both tropical crisps and freeze dried blood worms...have a healthy appitite...already know that when I come home they get fed and when I wake up they get fed...
