We set up the 55 gal tank, got 2 starter fish (guppies, which had babies the next day lol) and things were fine. After about a month we decided to get more fish (Tetras mostly, for a total of 12 fish and 2 babies that survived.. added a few fish at a time over 3 weeks) Since we got all the fish (about 4 weeks now) There has been this orange "stuff" accumulating on all the plants and ornaments, and splotches showing up on the glass. I originally thought the flakes (tetramin) were staining everything, but thats never happened in aquariums i've owned in the past. I don't think I'm over feeding, the fish appear to be happy... Anyone have any clue whats going on, or what i can do to stop it? I can email a couple pictures if requested.

... I do clean the tank, doing a 10% water change and cleaning all the plants and whatnot every 2 weeks. All water tests come back fine.

from the pics - there is a 100% chance it is algae- no doubt about it. When you clean your tank wipe down anything that has these "stains" they may be a little difficult to remove but most time they wipe off without force. in a 55 gal tank I would invest in about 3 chinese/siamese algae eaters, about 3 oto cats or a single pleco. This algae growth is normal, when a tank has nutrients and recieves light. My plecos and siamese algae eaters keep mine cleared off now, but i was in the same boat once.

uncertain no be counted if that's a drip leak from ceiling's area, condensation on a grimy wall, mildew or what. i could take a sturdy Pine Sol/water or Spc N Span/water answer and scrub it (according to probability with a broom if paint will face as much because it). After thoroughly dry, you will desire to evaluate a mildew/mildew resistant wall paint. If paint, make certain the wall has an entire day of drying previously using bathe.

Could it be diatomes? They are brownish, and should go away once the tank settles.

Also, you should increase your cleaning schedule to 20-30% every week... If you don't vacuum the gravel, you ought to, it gets the gunk out of the tank.

Pictures would help, yup. You can e-mail them to me at zoe@zoestevens.com, or post them on a photobucket, or join www.fishforums.com and ask about it there :)
