Clown loaches can hit a whopping 12 inches (30 centimeters) long in the wild. In captivity, their large potential size is rarely taken into considering and they are rarely kept in tanks big enough to accomodate them, and a more common size in capitivity would be (still impressive) about 8". It takes them a while to get there, and when they do, they are worth a lot.

I agree, Clown loaches can get as large as 12 inches or slightly more. They are a very slow growning fish and it might take tham 10-15 years to get that large.

I have three that are 5, 6 and 7 inches. They are all about 2 years old and look great. I have lost about a dozen small clowns over the years to Ick. They seem susceptable to it and very sensitive to treatment so treatment and recovery is not easy. I've added UV sterilizers to all my tanks and they seem to have ruduced to need to medicate almost completely. I'm a big fan of them for this, fish don't seem to get sick very often with it compared to without it in my experience. Clowns also like to be in groups of 5 or 6. Good luck, Peter.

Zoe is right, I think they may even get a bit bigger in optimum conditions. That won't likely happen in an aquarium though.
watch out for Ick as well since they don't really have scales they can get ick really easily.

They grow up to 5 inches. They love to eat worms. They need a temperature of 75 degrees F. They also need plants; retreats. You need more than 1 in your tank.
