Brine shrimp need salt water. One tablespoon of rock salt per half gallon is recommended.

Brine shrimp (artemia) require salt to hatch and survive. i usually keep mine at 35ppt, the same as seawater, and feed them live marine algae. there are also commercial feeds for brine shrimp that usualy contain some sort of yeast or bacteria. ususally you feed the shrimp a couple hours before feeding them to your fish to maximize their nutritional content, because brine shrimp on their own (especially after the naupliar stage) have very little nutrition

The only reason I say salt, is because we just brined a turkey for Thanksgiving, hence the reason for my answer!!!

They need salt water to live. But they eat algea and other things that float in water.....I like to use mushed (cooked) egg yolk.....in small amounts.
