The best place to purchase is from a local, private breeder, or even shipped from a non-local one.

The next best place is from your quality local independent fish store.

The next best is your typical pet or fish store chain.

I wouldn't by from walmart if I couldn't by fish anywhere else on earth. They are anything but quality and there list of evil deeds is a long one. Support slave labour - support walmart.

Don't buy a cheap fish those last for like a week , then they die a cool looking fish would be nice, maybe at a popular pet store you can rely on them because the people around you do! ( Just a suggestion )

NEVER buy from walmart!!!!! Their fish are almost always sick with something!

Try local small shops
I have good luck with petsmart

(I love breeding Guppies.....so if your looking for a hobby check that out)

Rule of thumb is look for disease if you see anything on even one fish probably the rest have it and look for the number of dead fish...don't buy from places like this!

Even if you pay more for the fish its worth it!

dont ask that question here...you'll get 'reputable pet shop' or 'look in the yellow pages' as useless answers.

ask it at wetwebmedia.com (fresh or saltwater) or reefcentral.com (saltwater fish and coral).

in fish husbandry, the only things that happen quickly are bad! patience is the key to success...

The pet shop. Look in the yellow pages/internet for the shortest distance.
