I cleaned my tank, and now that I have the new water in, my filter isn't working. There is definitely enough water for it to filter. What do I do???

Hmmm... I took it out and cleaned it, but it still isn't working. Connected everything properly... it's still not even making a sound. :S

What kind of filter do you have? Is it a canister filter? Sometimes the pick up and return can get blocked, same thing with power filters such as a penguin or Whisper filter.
Here is some information about aquarium filtration and filters:

Is it a fluval by any chance??
If so i have the same problems.
Make sure the plug is switched off when you take it out of the water. Put it back in the water switch the plug on and rotate the filter in the water, turn it upside down, to the side, right way up... just keep rotating it. It should come on if you do this.... try it a few times, if it dont work... its broke

If you are using a "Juwel" type filter which sits inside the tank, you must check that the filter pads are in the correct order. The plastic 'cradles' they sit in need to be positioned inside the filter housing so that the water inlet vents are not covered.

What kind of filter? If it is the kind that hangs over the back of your tank, you probably need to prime it again by adding water to it. If it is an undergravel make sure your air lines aren't kinked and that they haven't disconnected from the air pump. Hope that helps some! Good luck.

Pls check the rating of your filter, what size of particle is it suppose to filter. There is a chance that you probably should change your filter, filters should be replaced from time to time- when its membranes are clogged normally water will not pass through.

there is a very good chance that ther is air in the filter . if it is an internal type try tipping it on its side . if its an external type turn it off and disconnect the return to the tank when water comes out reconnect it and turn back on

Your filter is probably blocked, you need to clean the filter every
time you clean the tank.

I think you are describing a magentic impeller pump, they have a little plastic blades attached to a magnet. What you will need to do is remove it and check for grit or ferrous particles, if there is none, then use a straw or something to push the blades clockwise, it should start spinning and your filter will be working again.

Are you sure you attached everything back properly. I forgot to push a piece from my filter down and it wouldn't work.
