Fish - August 2006

I've had my Oscar and Dempsey for a few days, they've started to get some fuzzy white stuff on thier eyes, and on the tips of thier fins.

I asked a lady at the store and she said it was fungus. She directed me to the Jungle brand Fungus Clear tablets.

Does anyone else know about this stuff (the fuzzy white stuff, or the tablets) who could share? The fish are moving around well and eating today, I've just never dealt with this before and want to make sure I have all the facts I can.

Thanks.

What turns a normally gold goldfish white?

I have 2 goldfish. Both were gold. During the winter, they were displaced and went without much light for about 2 months. One goldfish turned completely white, and has remained that way ever sense, and the other has kept its gold color.

Could the lack of light have been the cause of one of my goldfish to become permanently albino while the other was not even affected?

Here is a picture of them both during Dorkus' (the bigger one's) transition. He is 100% white now.

My fish tanks glass cracked from the centre, the crack is around 1 feet long from edge to edge. The water leakage started therefore I have evacuated my fishes to safer place. Now is it possible to repair the cracked bottom glass or I have to replace the whole glass with a brand new, which I suppose would be a costly affair, as the size of the bottom glass is around 7 ft x 1 ft. .
Please suggest if there is some fool proof method to repair the cracked glass. Kindly note, I haven't separated the bottom glass from the fish tank, its absolutely fixed. I prefer to receiving answers from people who have successfully accomplished this task or professional in this feild. Thanking you all in advance.

Well, will they? I haven't bought any yet so don't flame me for being harsh and cruel to animals because it hasn't been done yet.

I've had my aquarium for just bout 4 and a little more years .. with gravel and plastic plants now cause the last plants were completely demolished by my african clawed frogs .. but now that they've gone to froggy heaven i'm thinking bout creating one of those fancy dandy grass inside the aquariums like you see in aquarium shops :)

I've asked in two stores and both stores they've just given me the look as if i've sprouted 10 heads and said greetings people of earth! oy..SO what are you folks using to create those pretty grassy enviroments with driftwood etc? i kind of want to go towards that cause i got an algea out of control aquarium even though i only got two danios and a red eye tetra 'n i'm losing the war despite less than 6 hours of lighting .. figured i'd take advantage of the algea to use as fertalizer for the grass! any suggestions? :)

I got a 10 gallon aquarium with two danios and a red eye tetra which i've kept for bout 4 years now well actually 4 and a quarter more runnin off a hagen aquaclear 30

I do water changes every week to keep the aquarium clean and i feed just a good pinch once a day with plenty of aeration and less than 6 hours of light to keep algea under control but even so i've had to clean out seaweed from the glass itself and the top glass!

I can't seem to keep the algea under control at all even with less light and sometimes..just sometimes the water stays nice 'n clean but 80% of the time the water is cloudy with algea still even if i use a water clarifier :( i'm tempted to switch back to the emperor penguin filter which does wonders but it's annoyingly noisy :(

help! :(

and I was told to put a lid with holes over the opening of my bowl. I got a cork coaster about a millimeter thick and drilled about 10 holes in it. My only question is, is that coaster heavy enough to keep the fish in the bowl?

well 1st i heard that goldfishes dont like round bowls after she had been in there for an hour, hmmmmm the idiot at walmart never mentioned that.
2nd the idiot at walmart said put your goldfish in distilled water, we would have never thought that distilled water has no oxygen in it, so when we found out off of this web site, then we change it to spring.
it helped a little but she stills a little acward.

I just want a simple fish! Gold fish are dirty I hear. I heard betta's are cleaner but I went on the website and they seem tough to maintain. How much does one small betta cost? Life expentancy? Food expense? Necessities?

I've got 2 baby betta fish and not sure how to determine the gender of both. I want to feed them good to make them healthy, but not fat. So it would be nice if anybody could suggest me good food for the babies... They are around 2 months old. Any other tips to take care of them is most appreciated. :-)
