But, the "female" has been displaying her gills at the male. Unlike the male, her gills are not bright red. Is this a male that is less colorful or do females engage in this behavior?

Hiya,
I have noticed that my goldfish is gradually getting bigger and bigger compared to the other goldfish living in the same tank as the thin one is 0.7cm fat and the other is about nearly 3cm fat. It looks like its sides have swollen and one side is slightly bigger than the other. It has been like this for about half a year and it has slowly got bigger and bigger. Also 3 of its scales fell of but it has re-grown silver ones. I'm not sure if this has something to do with the size of the fish. Its acting ok, just moving a bit slower. I feed it golfish flakes and put that de-clorine stuff in the tank... um... thats a bout it. Anyone who has any idea what could be wrong please reply, thank you xx

I have a 55 gallon fish tank that we aquired second hand. Despite my best efforts, I've been unable to keep freshwater fish alive in it. We've cycled the tank, the water chronically tests fine, I do proper water changes, and I always add the required chemicals and additives. Still, the fish keep dying.

Is it possible that the tank itself is sick? I'm using new gravel, but the under water filter that came with the tank. The external filter is used, but the filters themselves are new. All the tank's fixtures are new. The fish were purchased at two different stores.

The only signs of illness comes on the dead fish bodies. They look bruised, as if they have internal bleeding, but this only presents AFTER the fish has died.

I wonder if the previous owner washed the tank with soap but I have no way to know for sure. Any advice on what could be going on?

I open the tank to feed him and I had a pinch of flakes in my hand both times. Was he THAT eager to eat that he jumped out of the bowl? I have been feeding him two generous pinches of food a day since I got him, so why all the sudden is this jumping thing happenning? Should I be feeding him more?

I have a male guppy that had its tail nipped to shreds by other fishes. Now he swims vertically: head down, tail up. How do I care for him? Will his tail grow back? Will he survive? How do I help him survive?

I have a medium size tank with a betta divider in it with a male on one side and a female on the other.Sometimes the female likes to squeeze through the divider to his side of the tank. I am wondering if the male hurt the female's fin when she was with him. Something else could have made her fin this way.But I know it isn't rotting or anything like that. Will her fin grow back naturally or will I have to get a special medicine for her?Is this normal?
