I went to a petstore the other day and I saw an orange floating around in the tank. Has anyone ever heard of this? If so what does this do and should I give it to my gold fish. Also will the citric acid in the orange affect the pH level of the tank?

I have a goldfish tank. I do not think that chemicals are good for living things and I would rather not use them in my tank. I have a few fish, a pleco and like 5 snails. I keep the light on so that the algae will grow to help keep the PH levels down, but it doesn't overgrow because of all of the algae eating creatures. I was also told to try plants which would do the same as a healthy amount of algae. I got a plant and within 2 days the fish ate everything except for the weight that keeps it grounded in the water. So, I was just wondering if anyone knew the best way to "naturally" maintain my tank. Also, I don't like to clean the tank at all, so anything that would require less cleaning and more self maintenence. I really want to have a self cleaning tank, so I want to know the right creatures and plants etc. to ensure that while keeping the water clean.

Who do you really like that gives answers? Like if you were going thru the "Bird" section, who gives some of your favorite answers?
They don't have to have "Best Answer" answers. I am putting this
in the "Fish" section, in honor of the people I really like in the fish section, on account of that I really don't go anywhere else.

The baby brine shrimp are so tiny, I don't think my betta even sees them! I've been feeding them Hikari Bio-Gold for bettas, and he has been eating it happily, but I thought I'd provide a variety of different foods in his diet, so I hatched my own brine shrimp (San Francisco Bay brand) and fed them to him ... They are like little specks (and yes, they've hatched. They are SWIMMING). The betta does not even seem aware that they are food!
