i cant imagine a betta being bored. they're very indepedent fish. they get aggressive over territory, so it not an issue of it being lonely. bettas arent very active fish, so if it isnt doing much, i wouldnt worry.

A betta will be fine by himself. They really should have at least a two gallon tank and a small filter, though. Change 50% of the water once a week. Add dechlor to the fresh water according to the directions on the bottle.

Bettas don't fight with anything except other MALE bettas. They will kill a female if she is not ready to mate when she is introduced to him.

A betta (pronounced: bet-tah, not bay-tah) is actually a very docile fish and is usually picked on by other fish in most community tanks. Their long flowing fins are very enticing to the fast moving barbs and some of the danios. Some tetras will also nip at them.

They like calm, warm water (80 degrees) and love blackworms, brine shrimp and mosquito larvae. They will eat red betta flakes, but will not be in top shape without some live or frozen worms or other stuff. Breeding them is a very complicated process. Do not attempt it without reading a lot of literature on bettas before you start.

Currently, I have two crowntail males in adjoining tanks. They display a lot to each other, but this does them no harm. Google crowntail betta and check some out, they are beautiful.

Bettas aren't very social fish. This is doubly true of other bettas male or female. Bettas mating is pretty rough, and when it's done the males drives off the female. (Which in a bowl has lethal results.) If you want to give something to do give him some mirror time a couple times a week. Or throwing a plastic ball or something. (Make sure it's way to big to swallow.)

Betta fish are very agressive and independant so I don't think there could be much wrong. Your betta fish might enjoy a plant in his bowl to play in. Also betta naturally live in areas where there are a lot of places to hide. So maybe an ornament or plant for his bowl is exactly what you need.

Betas do have to be kept alone because they tend to eat fish smaller than themselves, and fight with anything their own size. That's the price of having a beta. And don't put a mirror near the bowl, he'll beat himself up on the glass.

Male and Female betta fish still fight.
If anything he is conserving energy, What you can do is get another fish, but keep them right next to each other, Theyll still display their dominance, but its not like their hurting each other.

I would recommend getting a female betta, cause usually they`ll fight with other males or they will try to spook away other fish like goldfish.
