I bought a few guppies to keep my goldfish company and within a week, all the guppies died? Why?

Unairated/unfiltered tanks can support 1inch of fish per gal (not including tail) If you have more space than that you can keep your fish in there as long as you want. Just make sure they are also at a constant temp of about 74f as well because guppies die at 60f. and can get very stressed and sick below 70f
Aquarium care. Goldfish don't place many demands on the aquarist. They need unpolluted water and they can dirty up a tank fast so, keep your filter clean. You may experience some mortality when you first introduce new fish into your aquarium, but this is often due to transportation stress. As long as the fish are not crowded, they will be able to get enough oxygen just from what is dissolved at the surface of the water. To avoid crowding, do not exceed one feeder-size (3 cm) goldfish per liter of water for any extended length of time. You should be able to put six to eight guppies in a basin aquarium.

Goldfish CAN live in warm water!!!! I've been doing it for YEARS!!! LOL
You jast have to increse the airation in your water.

Guppies are tropical and goldfish are cold water. Guppies like warmer water than goldfish and may need a heater for their tank, while goldfish can live fine with an unheated tank. Goldfish foul up a tank more quickly with their excrement and can tolerate the poorer water conditions (which they themselves contributed to) than the guppies, and generally goldfish should just be kept in a single species tank. So, if you don't want your goldfish to be lonely, get more goldfish.

Well... guppies are tropical and goldfish are coldwater. U cannot keep them in the same tank. The water might have been too cold.

As many have said, goldies and guppies have different temperature requirements.

Also, goldies produce A LOT of ammonia in their waste! So much, that it is very harmful to your poor unsuspecting guppies.

If you're keeping them in a smaller tank (which is a big no-no when it comes to goldies), there isn't enough water to dilute the ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, etc.

goldfish are a cold-water fish, guppies are a warm-water, tropical fish. They have different requirements, so no, they aren't compatible (although, of course, some may live for a while, until their systems give out.)
