How do you recognize the difference between a male goldfish and a female one?

I have two fishes -- a betta and a cory cat in a 3-gallon filtered aquarium. The cora cat died while I was on vacation and I didn't notice until just now! :( I removed the fish promptly but there is this cloud of white mucous floating about in the water now. What is it? Should I take my betta out and scrub down the aquarium and start anew?

I just got my male betta yesterday. I have him in a gallon tank. I'm going to be changing 25% water every week. My question is how do I get the water out of the tank without upsetting King Tut? He is a very jumpy scared fish. I don't want him to go into shock or anything! Please help!

I am preparing my Betta for it's new tank that I'm going to put it in, in a few days. I was preparing the water today. I put in the conditioner. Can too much of that be harmful? And then I went to put in the ICK and I wasn't expecting it and it just fell into the water. Probably a teaspoon in a gallon tank. I replaced half of the water with fresh water. Am I okay?

I feel like I'm feeding him too much. I feed him twice a day with flake food. I would like to switch him to the Hikari Bio Gold pellets. How would I go about making this smooth transition? And how many pellets do I give him? They are pretty small!

For my fellow fish hobbyist out there, what is your dream aquarium and/or pond? Do you have pictures you can post and share? What size? How big? What type of tank (fresh vs. marine)? What type of fish would you keep. Live plants or artificial? Special decorations/lights?

For the pond, would you have a waterfall? A bridge?

Fess up and tell me your dream. Pretend money wasn't an issue (no chuckling right there!).

Will my fish be alright? They are pretty hardy, but 1 died already.
Will the others be ok? It is almost 90 degrees in here, but the power is back and air is running. Will they be ok? And what do i do if there is another power surge? We would go to a hotel. What about my fish?

I'm sick of hearing the 1g of water per inch of fish in every question I read about space. It isn't always true!!! Especially with goldfish and marine fish.

Goldfish require 20g to start out with. Then 10g of water per additional fish.

Marine is at least 5g per inch (adult sized).

Also, don't think just because it is 1" right now it will stay that way. Some fish can get up to a foot in length.

Why do people continue to use this incorrect advice?

I would like to train my Betta to come to me when I come near to it. Or at least when I put my finger up to the bowl. Or even take food from my fingers. How would I go about doing this? My main problem is that I just got King Tut (my male Betta) and he seems extremely frightened my everything. Especially my fingers. I also have to move his bowl to see his thermometer and he freaks by this even though I try to do it gently! Please help!

I saw an ant in the fish bowl. How it managed to get in there? I don't know but my goldfish ate it. I watched it and it didn't spit it out. It doesn't look like anything is wrong with my goldfish but will it live?
