It is ok in moderation. Ideally, for virtually any fish, you'd want to feed them a variety of foods, so they have access to all the nutrients they need to grow and be healthy.

Minnows are freshwater fish, and so have never been on a lionfish's diet in the wild. It could be expensive feeding just saltwater fish to the lionfish (unless you went with saltwater mollies or something), but you want to feed them not just live things, but also prepared foods.

Cubes, krill, frozen shrimp (thawed of course), squid, etc. Give them a variety and you'll be rewarded with a very healthy and strong fish.

If you're worried about your lion taking non-living things, try going cold turkey for a few days or a week -- then give him the thawed food. If it hits the bottom, get it, and try again. Eventually he/she will try it, and after a little practice, the lion will eat everything you drop in there.

Good luck -- hope this helps!

More lionfish have been killed by aquarists by feeding freshwater minnows or goldfish than any other way. Freshwater fish have parasites and bacteria that a marine fish's immune system is not equipped to fight off. Do him a favor and switch him over to frozen marine type food right away.

Not really. Minnows are fresh water fish. Lionfish are salt water fish.

Actually you should switch to using non-live foods cause they are messy. There are alot of premium meat-based foods out there that are better than live foods for your lionfish.

no its not.a lionfish is a marine fish and should be fed other marine fish.the fatty acids in a freshwater fish is not sufficiant for your lionfish, those requirements can only be met by feeding him other marine fish.
