I would like to train my Betta to come to me when I come near to it. Or at least when I put my finger up to the bowl. Or even take food from my fingers. How would I go about doing this? My main problem is that I just got King Tut (my male Betta) and he seems extremely frightened my everything. Especially my fingers. I also have to move his bowl to see his thermometer and he freaks by this even though I try to do it gently! Please help!

first of all you CAN teach a betta fish tricks. 'gfdsf g' needs to do some research.

well if you just got him, give him some time to warm up to you. 1. DON'T move his bowl, that just stresses him out!
2. Just talk to him quietly and give him his favorite treat at a particular time each day. This will make him look forward to that time and get excited when you come.
3. Once he comes up to the bowl at meal time or treat time after you've been doing it for a few weeks stick the treat to you're finger (with a little of his water) and hold it just above the water.he will try to get it and will probably jump to get it.
4. Oh and he will probably learn to come when you call because of the treat time.

I do know someone who trained her goldfish using clicker training. ANY living being that can think can learn. There are lots of books and web sites on clicker training (www.clickertraining.com is the site of the method's guru). Just use fish food as his reward.

Just added: I looked a bit more at the above web site - there is video of a clicker trained fish!

this is the latest ----
you can easily train your fish but,
1. you should never keep changing its environment or the aquarium place
2. you must keep lots of live plants in your betta bowl for it to feel at home
hope my information helped you a lot*
