I've had my Oscar and Dempsey for a few days, they've started to get some fuzzy white stuff on thier eyes, and on the tips of thier fins.

I asked a lady at the store and she said it was fungus. She directed me to the Jungle brand Fungus Clear tablets.

Does anyone else know about this stuff (the fuzzy white stuff, or the tablets) who could share? The fish are moving around well and eating today, I've just never dealt with this before and want to make sure I have all the facts I can.

Thanks.

It's not in tight circular mounds, more whispy and cotteny.

From what i've read it sound more like fungus than ick, although I haven't dealt with either before now.

Follow the directions on the medication- it sounds like fungus to me. The medicine she directed you to should help clear it up.
You can also try a saltwater bath for the fish. Here is a page with IMPORTANT instructions.

Do read up on it before attempting any such thing. I did it with a fungus-infected goldfish once, and it helped.

The stuff is fungus because I once had a Bubble Eye goldfish and it had a fungus which is the white stuff. I took it back to the store. I did hours of research on fungus. I may be young ,but i am very smart. Also I am a fish expert as you can tell by my name.I am an aspiring Marine Biologist. Also it could be ick which is a very dangerous parasite. Ick has a natural enemy salt, but don't just put any type of salt you need non-iodized or plain salt. Iodine will kill fish. If you do try salt put one tablespoon in per 5 gallons. My black Moore goldfish had Ick and put salt in after I did a water change and it all cleared up.All yeah Ick shows up as White dots that look like sugar or salt. NEVER PUT SALT IN WHILE FISH ARE PRESENT ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A SMALL TANK YOU WILL BURN YOUR FISH. All yeah ick is caused by stress and/or bad water quality.

-Sigh-... for the last time, 'fuzzy white stuff' is NOT ich. Ich looks like your fish was rolled in salt particles.

The lady at the petstore was right. Your fish have a fungus. I've used the Jungle "Fungus Clear" tablets myself. Seperate your fish and put them into smaller 'hospital tanks', as I call them. I keep a few of these around to make it easier to administer medication and monitor sick fish, as well as to keep them 'quarantined' from the others temporarily.

The hard part with the tablets is dividing the tablets to be the right amount for your fish tank. A whole tablet treats 10 gallons... so I had to divide it into approximately a 1/8th slice to treat one of my little 1 gallon hospital tank. I found that scoring the top with a small sharp knife makes the tablet much easier to snap.

Good luck.

the lady at the store gave you good advice. it definitely sounds like a fungus and jungle makes a good fungus medication. fungus is contagious so treat your whole tank. you may want to start with a complete water change then begin treatment. do water changes every couple days; after a water change add another dose of the medication. it's normal for the water will turn yellowish during treatment.

Yes my fish had it. it looks like white patches on the fishes skin and eyes or wherever. Follow the instructions on the fungus tablet box, it may take a couple doses but that should clear it right up. well it did mine anyway. Its probably not Ick if its solid patches of white. Ick is more like little white pimples.

It is fungus and you should use medication right away or it will spread all over the fish and than it will be fatal. You might also try a salt water bath before you try medicaton. Good luck!

it does sound like a fungus. treat for that. I had this after I treated the tank with an antibiotic. I think the tank got knocked off kilter from the medicine. I had to get rid of the fungus after the infection. Crazy!!!!!

ick looks like air bubbles attached to the fish, and they will rub on their environment to get them off. this is fatal if not treated. fuzz is fungus.

good luck with your fish!!!!
