I've heard fish swimming upside down, if that is what you mean, but if they are "swimming" as in moving their fins and getting somewhere, they are NOT dead, but go to a vet, that's all the advice i got.

if your fish is floating backwards I guess they are doing the backstroke.

Either they are sleeping...or they are dead. Try cleaning the bowl more often. Then they'll live longer.
