Can a change of diet cause stress or is it more likely a virus? We've had this lone fish for nine months without any problem.

A bacterial infection. This is common for gold fishes.I had several that this happened to.Some we had for years.If it's not really bad you can try to change his water to distilled water.It might give him a few days longer.I am so sorry.It will keep getting worse and it will look like he's bleeding.Good Luck!

I had large cichlids in my tank. For all the time I spent replacing and treating there water, their was always something happening to them. So one laid eggs and I raised them from there on. I must of had 40 of those cichlids. They were black and a couple were white. Anyways what was the question.

I assume your gold fish is from the 'shubunkin' strain and do you know what the sex is? no--sound like a male which has reached maturity which in both sexes is identical in color with a slight variation,in markings

there is a kind of goldfishes called "lionhead", yours may be one of those, the red area grows with age

anyway, the best thing to do is to visit your veterinary or your pet shop and ask them

some goldfish has a big bulge on its head...your fish might be a bullhead/red cap/ oranda strain...those are the possible types...bulged goldfish are usually expensive...u should be happy

A disease and yes it can be cured. Your need to get a proffesinal vet unless you want your pet to start suffering of " Fungal Disease "

Its just a bacterial infection. Change his water to distilled and keep it clean.

i dont think its a dieseas, if your goldfish is white
that is normal, its just a a marking
