You can purchase it at your local pet store. But you should know some things about the freshwater salt.

Ordinary salt is a useful remedy for the prevention and treatment of several freshwater fish diseases. It assists in the healing of injuries, promotes formation of slime coating, improves gill function, reduces the uptake of nitrite, and is effective against some parasites. Before you get too pumped up about the virtues of salt, be aware that some of the same benefits are achieved through use of a stress coat product. Furthermore, there plants and some species fish cannot tolerate salt, so it must be used with care. In other words, salt is a double-edged sword. Some of the fish species that are senisitive to the salt are scaleless fish, such as a Black Ghost Knife Fish, or Cordydoras, and Tetras.

Just make sure that your aquarium is suitable for salt. My advise for you, if you have plastic plants and suitable fish for salt, go for it. If you have live plants and salt intolerant fish stay away from the salt idea.

Are you looking for salt to mix with fresh water to start up a salt water aquarium. You can buy this salt at all pet stores that sell salt water fish. If your looking for salt to add to fresh water for keeping brackish water fish like mollies(where fresh water rivers mix with ocean water) you can use this same salt by adding about one teaspone per 5 gallons. If you are looking for salt for treating some infected fish you can use the pet store salt or you can use rock salt.

Take care in making sure that the fish in your aquarium will not be harmed by the salt. Some species of freshwater fish that don't have scales can be harmed by it.

You can find a carton for about $1.75 at PetSmart in the fish medicine/food/whatever isle. The dosage, I think, is about 1/2 a teaspoon per gallon. Read the side of the carton to make sure.

Aquarium salt is an awesome additive to freshwater tanks. It reduces stress on its inhabitants by making their enviroment more comfortable, and it also deters nasty things like fungus from growing.

If it is fresh water...you shouldn't need salt. You only need salt if it's salt water. You should be able to get it at a pet store.
