well 1st i heard that goldfishes dont like round bowls after she had been in there for an hour, hmmmmm the idiot at walmart never mentioned that.
2nd the idiot at walmart said put your goldfish in distilled water, we would have never thought that distilled water has no oxygen in it, so when we found out off of this web site, then we change it to spring.
it helped a little but she stills a little acward.

Goldfish prefer cooler water. They are not a tropical fish. they like the temperature in the range of 68 to 75 degrees. All fish are also sensitive to quick water temperature changes. Goldfish also tend to produce (some people would call them a dirty fish). The best way to change their water is aerate water for 24 hours from your tap water. This allows the chlorine gas to disperse from the water and allows the water temperature to be room temperature.

Distilled or spring shouldn't really matter. Gold fish like betta's get their oxygen from the air. Not the water. If you got it from wal-mart that is probably your problem. They don't maintain their tanks as required. Everytime I go to our walmart I always see at least half a dozen dead fish. My guess is that the water temp wasn't close to what it was in before you changed it. I don't know what to tell you to do to make it better. Sorry. But I had two betta's (in seperate bowls) and only used distilled water. They lived for 3 years. Now I have a 46 gal and a 10 gal both salt water and I use straight tap water. Best of luck to ya.

Goldfish, like any fish, CAN go into shock.

First, before you buy any fish, please do research and make sure you have the approriate set up. Goldfish need at least 20g for the first fish and then 10g per additional fish since they produce a lot of ammonia in their waste. They, like any other fish also, require a filter and an air pump.

You need to buy START RIGHT or something like it. You add it to your new (tap) water and let it sit for about 10 min. before adding it to the tank. This takes out the chorline.

Also, make sure to let your goldie sit in the bag it came in in the new water for about 15 min. This allows the water in the bag to match the water in the tank so when the goldie goes in the new water, it won't have a temp. shock.

take it back to walmart. dont put a living breathing creature in a bowl. would youwant to be in a bowl. The fish needs to be in a tank with a filter system and an air rock, atleast 20 gallon tank! No more than 2 fish for that

TJ, gold fish do not get their oxygen from the air. If you see them gasping at the surface, it is because they do not have enough oxygen in the water. At the surface there is a little bit more oxygen that has been absorbed by the water. They know this and are trying hard not to die.
