my puppy used to be very quiet, but nowadays, he barks if we don't give him our attention, he barks if we don't give him food while we're eating etc. recently i have had to spend all my time at home due to illness and studies, so maybe he is becoming a bit too comfortable with me and starting to bully me a bit. whatever it is, it has to stop because my neighbours are obviously unhappy with it. what is the best way to teach him to stop barking every time he doesnt get what he wants? i am considering buying lemon spray, but wish to avoid that for the time being if possible, but if there is no other option then it will have to be that.

You hear more and more stroies regarding maulings by these vicious animals. I think it's time they were all destroyed as owners cannot be trusted nor can keep them under control when they "turn".

Any Dog that harms a Human Being should firstly be destroyed, then have a minimum prison sentence of 6 months for the owner.

she is still at the vet and cant move her back end, shes 8 years old and it happened so fast. she we playing and running around with my family and I in the back yard in the morning and by 6 o'clock that evening she was having such a hard time walking about 16 hours after that she had no mobility over her back end at all. we took her to the vet and they took blood tests and Xrays, everything look perfect and normal. theres a scan that costs $2000 that I dont have that could see whats wrong, but is it possible that she could just have a tic... can they immobilize my dog this much?

i just got the pup last week so theve only been around each other for a few days. i know some tussle is in order the older ones been with us since he was born and has no training, is quite energetic and we hav a problem with him snippin at people before i bought the yng one but its more mutual the older ones about 2x the size of the pup but he we go wright at him and visa versa when one is come the outher seems to want to start it. so far i just supervise and interject when i think its getting to rough but somtimes even if i grab them by the tuff of there neck the still are confrontational id hate to have to resort to the oldschool rolled up paper i hear it can b counter productive. so at what point would the roughhousing be to much i no dogs nip eachother all the time so far ive been letting little nips at the but go but when they go face to face i break it up and how can i better socialize them to each other or how long tell theve asteblished there dominant thing (its me lol)

Do your dogs have any weird behaviors, obsessions, or just do something funny? If so, what?

I have a Blackmouth Cur and he takes my Spaniel's leash in his mouth and will walk him around the yard for hours, and never gets bored. And he climbs trees, kind of like how a bear does it, like hugging it kind of. I dont know why he does it, but it is really funny to watch.

How about you?

I have a Austrailian Sheperd/ Irish Setter mix dog and I have to admit lately he's been EXTREMLY agressive. Barking (a scary bark) at people when they come into the house Before we got him he usued to be abused, so when you go to spank him he starts wimpering, he really is the SWEETEST dog. But today when I let all the dogs outside to let them go to the bathroom (we have three poms and the mix) the UPS man walked up and said "Are the dogs alright to be out here?" and I said "oh yeah they're fine." well the mix (ryder is his name) jumped up to give him a ""hug"" as I call it. Ryder snipped and kind of "bit" the UPS man. He said he wasn't going to sue, but what should we do about this, my parents said were probably going to have to put him down (we live in california) so the california law is that if dog bites they have to be put down? . something like that I dont know, but anyway
please help I'm extremly attached to this dog and really don't want to give him up, I love him.

Thanks

Ok, so this Christmas is gonna be great for me. Well WAS! My best friends family (which is my 2nd family that moved far away a year and 1/2 ago and ive only seen them for one day at a time 2x) asked me to spend Christmas with them in their old house (a cabin on the mnts in North West GA, where we both used to live, not too far from me now)! I was so excited, got permission, and asked if I could bringmy Chi, Cena. They said yes.
Until about a week ago I found out that sometime during my 2-wk stay with them that we are speding a couple nights in a Gatlinburg cabin with the'r aunt and cousins. Fine with me, as long as I can bring Cena, or Im not away from him too long.
They told me their aunt said I could bring him since he was under the weight limit for pets. Then a couple a days ago I found out that I can no longer take Cena because they got a different cabin. Soooo I was thinking "well thats ok, cuz I can still be with him on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! Then I found...

Hi, everyone. My 11 year old daschund recently tore her ACL in her back right leg. The vet gave us some anti inflammatorys and also suggested 500 mg of gloucosamine. Since we've been giving her the pills, she's been vomiting frequently. Assuming it was the gloucosamine, we took her off of that today and gave her 1/4th of her pain pill(vet suggested half, we figured maybe it was too strong for her). Everything was fine from 2 PM today to about 10 minutes ago and sure enough, she vomited again.

Is there any thing that anyone here can suggest? Maybe give me an idea as to what could be causing the vomiting? She doesn't seem to have diarreah and seems to be walking on the leg fine, which indicates the pain pill is working. Anybody have any ideas?

Hi, I'm taking care of a friends dog this Christmas. I've taken care of him many many times before but maybe it's cause I'm used to my new puppy that when I went to visit him today I was so shocked at his size that I almost had a heart attack! Well I'm exaggerating but still. He never gets enough exercise and get fed a lot of human food. He's part corgi but he looks mostly like a corgi. He is definitly obese, so when I doggy-sit him I must slim him down! Well I do know the basics, exercise and no table scrap etc. but is there anyone who's experienced or is a professional at dieting? Anything I should watch out for?

Just out of curiousity. We found him when he was about four months old. He was a stray and he came to my dads house and stayed in his garage for about a week or so, and my dad lives in town so he gave him to us so he would have more room to run. we think he may have been mistreated because he was really skinny we could see his ribs and backbones and he was really afraid of people at first. But we finally got him to trust people and now he's happy:) and when someone new comes in the door he'll run up to them and lick there hand. He's really good with little kids to. My little cousin whose about three came over. When she came through the door he came up to her and licked her face it was so cute... lol sorry... i felt the need to tell ya'll that. But anyway hes really smart, he learns commands fast. He's also protective of us. I dont mean agressive but if he knew something was wrong he would protect us. Just to tell you some about his personality. Anyway Ill put the pics in the next post

My two month old maltese puppy got two of his puppy shots. He was fine until we got home. I left him in his room and went to eat dinner, and when I went back to play with him, he refused to come near me. Is this normal? Or did I do something?

Police Officer Accused of Killing K-9 Partner

"Take Action" to ask State Attorney to seek maximum sentence

Sergeant Allen Cockfield of the Miami-Dade Police Department was recently charged with felony animal cruelty charges for allegedly kicking his K-9 partner Duke to death during an obedience training exercise with more than a dozen other police dogs and trainers present. The reason, according to an anonymous witness: Duke barked when he wasn't supposed to, so Cockfield hoisted the four-year-old German shepherd by the leash around his neck and repeatedly kicked him in a fit of rage until he lost consciousness. Duke reportedly died later at a veterinary clinic from injuries sustained during the attack.

Following the incident, the Miami-Dade Police Department suspended Cockfield from duty without pay, and opened an internal affairs investigation of his violent actions. After his arrest, Cockfield was released on bail. Miami-Dade police told reporters that Cockfield, a veteran of the force with 27 years experience, is a model officer with a file full of commendations and no history of disciplinary problems. However, with more than two decades of K-9 training under his belt, it is possible that this is just the first time this loose cannon got caught or reported for abusing an animal.

All too often, police officers get away with breaking the law simply because they are police officers. That is why it is especially important that Cockfield be held accountable for his actions -- just like any citizen who commits murder should be. Sentencing guidelines for third degree felony animal cruelty charges call for a maximum of five years in prison, which is actually a small price to pay considering that Cockfield brutally took the life of his young canine companion and partner for something as innocent as an ill-timed bark.

Sergeant Allen Cockfield's trial is scheduled to begin on September 24th. Please write or call prosecuting attorney Isis Perez before then and politely ask that she seek the maximum penalty in the case against Cockfield.

I just lost my beloved Mastiff to a car accident. I miss him so. My mind is like a teeter totter. That breed is so awesome and he is awesome as well.

I thought about Fostering but they have to be very well tempered and good with kids, I have 7.

Considering the fact that ranchers kill millions of cows, why should Michael Vick go to prison? Are you saying gods are worth more than cows? Aren't cows bigger than gods?

In other cultures, aren't cows the most sacred?
