My two month old maltese puppy got two of his puppy shots. He was fine until we got home. I left him in his room and went to eat dinner, and when I went back to play with him, he refused to come near me. Is this normal? Or did I do something?

Worst case scenario he is having an allergic reaction. I highly doubt that but just keep an eye on him and make sure that he is acting normal in every other way. You may want to try to feed him a little bit also. We had a foster puppy that had an allergic reaction to his first shots and he went off by himself and wanted to be left alone. The skin around his eyes also got swollen. Just keep an eye on him. He is most likely just sore from the injection site.

Well ya...... u took him to the vet.....U evil evil betrayer of the canine world. U happened to be there when he got his shots, maybe he figured u had something to do with it.
U will be forgiven I promise.

See if he will be tempted by a game with a favorite toy or give him some really great food .... and make sure he knows its coming from u.

I would keep an eye on him.... if he starts behaving a little worse or u notice he is not looking so great ..... take him to a vet. May be a slight reaction.

Little dogs are known for being spoiled little brats (I have chihuahuas, I know) so he is probably just mad at you for taking him to the vet and letting them stick him with needles. That, and vaccines tend to make puppies feel a little icky afterwards. Just leave him alone, and when he comes to you to make amends, tell him how sorry you are for letting the big bad vet hurt him.

You just need to regain your puppies trust again. Getting shots hurts ab-it. Every time I give my dog a bath she wont come near me for several hours so I know she is P. O. ed.

He's just holding a grudge against you for taking him to the vet (and often, vaccinations can make a pup not feel grand, so he may just want to be left alone).

He may also still smell the vets office on you. He might be friendlier after you take a bath and change your clothes.

sometimes pups get very sore after they get their shots. maybe he is sore and does not want you touching him because it hurts. I went through this with my pup.
