Yes I've heard that it can kill your pet. I've seen dogs eat it and only get some stomach problems. I guess the question is how much chocolate...?

Yes and the darker it is, the more toxic is is for your dog. Dark chcoclate is the worst, milk chocolate isn't as bad and white chocolate is the least harmful of the three. But ALL chocolate made from cocoa is bad for dogs, even milk chocolate. Chocolate made especially for dogs is derived from carob, not cocoa. Depending on the size of your dog, even a small amount of cocoa derived chocolate could kill, no matter how dark it is.

Yes, chocolate is bad for dogs. The ingredient in chocolate, theobromine, is what is lethal to dogs. Just like people, when a dog tastes chocolate, it leads him/her to want more. Now, one little spec of chocolate won't kill your dog but the limit that one dog might have is going to be different than the next dog. So, just to be on the safe side, don't give your dog any chocolate at all!

Large amounts of chocolate is bad for dogs. Dark chocolate is significantly worse than milk chocolate, though.
I've known of dogs that have eaten quite a bit of milk chocolate and had no problems.

Funny you should ask that question. I have a 14 month old lab. Brought chocolate fudge home yesterday. (Christmas gift) Left for 45 mins came back, fudge gone.
With his size (91 lbs) it wasn't a huge concern. He also said common chocolate is not as lethal as people think. They are more concerned if a dog consumes bakers chocolate. It is more concentrated. Riley was on a major buzz for about ten hours, but is fine. But with any chocolate consumption always check with your vet!!

Carob chips can be used for treats for dogs and is safe.
Carob Chips, which are not chocolate, are sold in health food stores and sometimes in large
supermarkets. Carob powder, a perfectly safe alternative to chocolate, is made from the pod of an eastern
Mediterranean evergreen.
