Lately my 4 1/2 month old shih tzu has been scratching like crazy. I have been bathing her once a week and think this may be causing her skin to dry so I am trying to wait longer. As far as fleas I am giving her the pill type flea medication so I hope that is not the issue. I check her regularly and haven't found any fleas nor any red patches of skin. She does come everywhere with me even work. This is why I felt the need to bathe her weekly. I think her diet is fine since I've had her she has been eating royal canin puppy food. If I have bathed her too much and need to moisturize her skin what can I use. This is my first experience with a long haired breed and was wondering if part of this is just their nature?? I brush her every night and have had her trimmed twice. Any suggestions???

he's a beautiful 12 year old bichon who was in great health for a 12 year old. she fed him right and he exercised right, so there was nothing wrong with him. She had him since her 17th birthday! She took him for a check up and the vet said that the dog seemed to have some acid reflux and he prescribed Lenzor. Problem with Lenzor when you don't have acid reflux is that it kills your liver. 3 weeks later, the dog's body filled with water and he just collapsed. My friend is not being able to get over and cries all day, understandably. She feels guilty because she gave him the meds. Now she wants to sew the doctor. Is this advisable or should I tell her that it won't bring back the dog and it won't make her feel better... what should she do in this case? does this happen often that vets give the wrong pills and our pets die? How can I help her???

I have a Golden Retriever that is around three years old who has had a great record of housebreaking. Recently I moved in with my girlfriend who has a one year old cockerspaniel. WE have noticed that a few times the dogs have pooped in the morning when we wake up. We do not know who to blame but we want to make sure we do the right thing regardless. Is there anything we can do to stop the dogs from the nighttime pooping? They have changed food a bit, and they are being taken from my house during the day to her house at night. Could these be contributing factors?

I also heard that if you were to seperate their front legs too much that they die, I am not cruel but I think it's important to know for people who have kids and dogs to teach the kids to be careful of the dogs legs IF this rumour is true. Is it true? the last guy who asked had his question removed.

Does anyone have any experience with owning a Jack Russell? How are they as a family pet? Do they bark for than the average dog? Are they good with kids? What are your recommendations for a good (small) family dog. I dont really want one with long hair. thank you.

He is 3 years old and while I don't see any fleas, the area just to the left of his tail is irritated and he keeps licking it. The area is red but no hair loss. I have given him 2 soothing baths to hopefully elviate the problem, as well as a couple of dog asprin to see if that would help, but he keeps digging. Help please.

As a first pet I have been looking at boxer dogs as they are great family pets, have come across one that is crossed with a greyhound, but it does have more traits from the boxer appearence wise, anyone with info on cross breeds? Is it wiser to buy just a pure pedigree boxer?

My husband and I have a four year old son and a 1 month old girl. We want to get a dog next summer. I've had pets all my life (grew up with labrodor retreivers) and this will be his first dog. Though I'm partial to labs, is there a breed that makes the perfect "family dog"? Or is it all about the dog's parents and how it's raised? I'd be completley open to a mixed dog from the shelter (my grandmother has an aussie mix she adopted and he's great with the kids) but could this be a problem if the parents were agressive or it was abused? I'd love to give a shelter dog a chance at life it would otherwise not have but are they the safest option for family pet?

I am looking to get a small dog but I do not know what breed to get... This is what I need:

1) The breed needs to be small
2) The breed needs to be EXTREMELY FRIENDLY
3) The breed doesn't have to be walked a lot (during the day)
4) The breed is CALM and CUTE
5) The breed can have short brown hair
.......... One that looks like a Yorkie but is NOT A YORKIE

Please send all ideas to me... Every single breed that meets these specifications...

Please also indicate the breed you recommend that meets these specifications...

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

P.S. I like the idea of a dog in the toy family but the dog can be from any family.
