All breeds of dogs stay in heat for an average of 21 days. Some could go longer, some for a shorter amount of time.

Best thing to do if you want to keep her intact is to keep her away from intact males for a full month if your not planning to breed her.

On the average a large dog stays in heat for 3 to 4 weeks, but if planning to bred is only fertile certain times during. You can check with your vet, if you plan on breeding her as to when's the best. If not, just keep her away from the boys.

Yeah, it is scientifically proven that a Labrador retriever will stay in heat till it gets its fair share of tail. How long does that last? well, until it gets them all or till someone shoots him or till the moon moves from full to waning...or something like that.

There is an old saying with breeders...."One week in, one week of, and one week out". This simply means that for the first week, you will notice swelling, spotting, and a change in behavior. She may become pregnant if mating occurs. The second week is the best chance for success in breeding. The third week, the chances go down and she is less fertile. By week four, her cycle should be over.
