If you aren't familar with Jack Russells, they're not like the average dog. They are very smart, but have a mind of their own. The best advice I can give, without getting lenthy, is to have patience. And when you correct her, talking to them firm usually works better then things such as threating with a newspaper, etc. They're like children, let them get away with something once, or not following through, they will try you over and over again. I would ask your vet for some advice. Everyone that I tell I have a Jack Russell, says oh my. But everyone that haves them wouldn't own any other kind of dog. I love mine, and my husband and him are attached at the hip and he wasn't an animal person. This is not my first. We're about to get him a little sister to play with now that he's 18 months and very obedient (he'll still try me though). That's their nature. They are also, sometimes hard to housebreak, but once you stick to it, you're set for life. Good luck.

Jack Russel are extremely cute and intelligent... but very nervous as well.... you should take her to a quiet place to train her outside and make sure that before she had exercices and could enjoy her time... if you start to train her, before letting her do what she wants, she'll be less listening as she wants to do something else... I have a 3 months old labrador.. and even if labrador are very easy to train... sometimes it is hard as he is looking somewhere else, don't listen, etc... I realize that if I start to walk with him, leave him alone so he can smell and do what he wants.. then when I call him he really listen to me... and then I can start to train 5 minutes... Do not try to train your dog too much at the beginning.. 2-3 minutes 3 times a day is a lot at the beginning. Read books about Jack Russels and visit a puppy school, this is excellent for them.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMVaD

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Oh dear, you didn't research properly before you got her, Jack Russells are very intelligent and at the same time, very excitable and energetic. I think you need to go to a professionaltrainer for this.

Tips on selecting a good trainer, small class size, max of 8, does not use choker chains, slip collars and the training method is positive reinforcement, be it treats or what not. These are the signs of a good trainer- if your dog is scared, she will not learn as quickly as if she was calm and looking forward to it.

Jack Russel's are not as easily trained as some other breeds but it can be done, I know of one that does obedience and one that did working trials!

Start by finding something she really likes / wants and using it as a lure / reward for what you want to teach her to do. I would start by simple getting her to look at you and paying you attention. this will only be for a second or two to start with before giving the reward and later you would add your word (I use "watch") to get her to do it on command.

Go to a good dog training club who can show you properly how to work with your dog but keep your sessions short and positive, always finishing on a winner.

I am sorry but this is why it's important to do research on a dog /puppy before getting.
What you describe is a normal Jack Russell as others have said they are smart but have a mind of their own. It's just patience and consitancy.
i would also suggest puppy calsses and then dog obedience classes with a group. Teh instructors can teach you how to teach your pup. Teh added distractions of a group class will help to be taught how to get his attention on you.
