I wouldn't pay anyone for a dog that was selling puppies that were only 1 month old. If they are willing to let puppies go that young, then there is going to be problems in the future.. Expensive problems!

A great dog from a great breeder is worth 4 or 5 times that, in my opinion. BUT those are few and far between. A great breeder is breeding very selectively and producing only the most superior dogs in breed conformity, temperment, and health. Find breed clubs and look for breeders who quiz you about EVERYthing before they're willing to sell you a puppy; those are the breeders who really care about their dogs and who are likely producing really good ones.
$500 is too much if you don't know anything about the breeder's stock and standards though. Before you fork over that kind of cash, ask to meet the breeder's dogs -- not necessarily the father, which is often not the breeder's dog, but definitely the mother, and other related dogs -- and ask to see their papers and health certifications. The good breeder will be proud to show you ALL of these things. If there is ANY hesitation or defensiveness, DO NOT buy from that person.
A lab from a rescue will usually cost you between $50-150 and you have a good chance of getting a good dog anyway, especially if you know what to look for. Dogs that are too timid or too dominant do best with experienced owners because they can have some dangerous behavior patterns, so stay away from the shy ones and the ones who come up to you and demand your attention. If you choose an adult dog, chances are any lifelong health problems will already have cropped up. Adopting a puppy from a rescue carries that small chance of your pet developing epilepsy, allergies, etc.

first it should not leave mom until 8 weeks and a lot of this is by law as well as the well being of the pup.
have the parents been vet tested for any and all genetic problems( hips, eyes, etc). Have the pups been wormed along with mother at 2,4,6,8 weeks old.will the pup get it's first vaccine this can't be done till 6-8 weeks old??
Does the dog come with papers??
Have you checked the breeder out are they reputable.
If yes to ALL these questions then yes. Showing a pup and getting a deposit at this age is ok but do not bring a pup home at this age.

Lab doggies are no longer exceptionally modern, and Maltese are small and fragile. you may desire to get fortunate and have not have been given something take place to the small canine, or you're starting to be the lab holiday and land on the Maltese and injury a bone or worse. I have no thought approximately the different 2. they are no longer hybrids, they're overvalued mutts. I presume they're some variety of "dressmaker breeds" meaning they are going to be poorly bred and probable much extra frail than a Maltese. Plus sickly and not nicely socialized. evaluate a sturdy small canine like a terrier.

1. The puppy is too young to be sold.
2. If the breeders only want $500, it's just a pet-bred dog, and if that's all you want, fine. But you still better be sure the dog's parents have had OFA clearances on hips/elbows and CERF clearances on the eyes. Otherwise that bargain puppy will cost you thousands and thousands later on when you are dealing with crippling hip dysplasia.

You can't safely take the dog from its mother before it's about 8 weeks old. You'll have problems with it if you do and it's cruel.
$500 isn't a bad price for a purebred labrador - do you have papers?
Rescuing dogs is a noble cause but not everyone wants to. It's OK to buy a puppy from a reputable breeder if that's what you want, but if this breeder is offering you a 4 week old then I think they aren't genuine.

If your buying from a reputable breeder , yes. Since the puppy is so young, it should stay with mom til it at least reaches 8 weeks old.

try the humane society there are great dogs there. My dogs have alway been from there and they have always been GREAT dogs. But I do spoil them too. Puppies are ALOT of work so only get a pup if you have time an older dog can be somewhat trained so take your time and get the right dog for your situation

No, that is too high, and 4 wks old is too young to take from mother, not less then 8-10 wks old...
there are plenty of great labs needing homes for alot less than that.....
