She's a Aussie/bordercollie mix - great puppy, no complaints. She is extremely active but I love it - keeps me in check. However, she goes crazy with people and other dogs. When I take her for walks, she wants to say hi to EVERYONE she sees which is a pain b/c i have to pull her from trying to run to them - after which she whimpers as she stares back :(. When people come over to visit she gets extremely excited and wants to run to them. If I keep her behind the doggie door she just barks and wants to get out. When we do let her greet people she goes CRAZY! She crawls to them, jumps on them, licks their hand, rolls on her side/back to get her belly rubbed, the whole 9. Its great that she's is good w/people but I dont want her to just be friendly to just anyone plus it can get annoying to the people. Is she just being a puppy? will she grow out of it?
PS - she is going to puppy class and is very smart...its just this issue...thanks

I want to get my puppy to the point that I can give him free reign of the house when I am not at home.

He is 6 months old and not very trust worthy. He is however, completely house broken.

He just likes to eat everything.

He sleeps on his dog bed at night in my room and does very well with that but, I do crate him when I am at work during the day. I let him out twice during my work hours b.c I am so close to home.

How can I start weening him from his crate into the house? Any ideas?

She has accidently gotten out twice and she has went and bitten two different dogs..the latest last night. She is really good with my children. We have had her since she was five months old. When we got her the people before us abused her and didn't feed her properly. I knew of the pit bull's backround but hoped if I raise her like one of my own children she would not turn out like her breed. Does she realize what she is doing is wrong? My kids have gotten attached to her as my husband. I am ready to give her up as I do not think there is anything we can do for her as I feel if given the chance she would bite again. I am just writing to see what other opioins are and are greatly apperciated.

Please help. My neighbor thinks it OK to leave her miniture Chihuahuas outside all day (10-12 hrs). I live outside DC and the avg temp is in the high 30s to mid-low 40s. These poor dogs are suffering and she does not think there is anything wrong with leaving them out all day.

What is the coldest temp that you think 5lbs and 7lbs Chihuahuas should stay out in for extended periods of time?

I am waiting to hear back from animal control to see if they will talk to her.

Hello again! Thank you to the many people who answered a similar question for me a while ago. But I'm back and I'm still looking for a puppy. I'm going to be a first time dog owner and I'm looking for a small-med dog. I've been looking at French Bulldogs, Pugs, cocker spaniel, schnauzers ect? From all the reading I've done smaller dogs are more difficult to train. Being that this is going to be my first I'd prefer something that has easier training capabilities. I love pugs but I hear they're hard to train and that they shed ALOT...is there anyone out there who can help?
I want: a cuddly friend, small-med size (something to take to work with me everyday) doesn't shed ALOT, isn't incredibly hyper, and is somewhat easily trained.

I know getting a puppy is alot of work. But since I'm a novice I feel like having as many cards in my hand as possible is the best idea!

Thanks for you time!!

I have a pomeranian, he's about 7 years old, I got him from a pet shelter 2 years ago. At that time his hair was full and fluffy, now he seems to be losing hair on his behind, the bald spot seems to be getting bigger and bigger. I don't have the money to take him to a vet, does anyone know what could be causing his hair to stop growing and turn bald?? It appears to be very dry and scabby where he has lost his hair. What can I do to get his hair to grow back?????????

Originally we had bought 2 puppies, and had to give one of them away cause training both of them at once was just impossible. The puppy that we have now was doing very good at going on some puppy pads that we were told to try, cause everything else just wasn't working. And on top of that the weather outside is absolutely freezing, so we don't want to take her outside when it is often not even 10 degrees and make her sit until she pees. But we seem to be having a problem now that we recently gave the other puppy away...she will only go on the puppy pad sometimes, whereas before she was doing very good. Since it is so cold outside we have decided to train her to go on her puppy pad until she is a little bit older and can endure the cold weather a little bit more. Is this a bad way of training her? And why is it that all of a sudden she has to be almost re-trained after we gave the other puppy away? Any help would be very much appreciated.

So, why do puppies bite so much? More and more my puppy wants to bite my feet, face, ect. Whenever, he does this I give him a chew stick. He's been chewing it near an hour. Why does he need to chew so much? Also, is it okay for me to give it to him to occupy his time while he sits by him and I am on the net or reading?

I found the cutest pit bull puppy at the shelter by my house and we are considering getting it.

It's a very lovely dog. The only issue is how much they shed.

Are they light shedders?

Thanks!!

Like if someone doesn't know for sure when the dog's last vaccination was, although there's a good chance it may have been within the past year or so, such as with a rescue.

My puppy had distemper and was on doxycycline from ages 9-15 weeks. Her teeth look HORRIBLE. It looks as though someone took a power sander and sanded down the fronts of her front teeth and all the anamel is rotting away. She's only 5 months old but her teeth look worse than my 12 year olds.

Is there any sort of dog dentistry or things I can do at home to help save her teeth? Can the vets put on enamel or things to protect her teeth?

On another forum, some person posted that vaccines are unneccesary and puppies(not dogs, puppies) don't need them and they have natural immunity. They even suggested taking unvaccinated 15 week old puppies to dog parks was a good idea.

Is this anything other than stupidity? Considering how many puppies get parvo or distemper how can someone who knows anything make that argument?

Sure, there is an astronomically low risk the puppy might react to the vaccine, but compare that to the relatively high chance of getting disease.....

I hope to check out some events next year , and was wondering what its like from those who have been to events (of any kind).
Whether you showed or were just there to watch.
What did you do while you were there?
Does it usually cost for one to go and watch?
Do you get much time to talk with people who are showing their dogs?
Is it common for somebody to just attend or is it mostly just people there to show?
Anything that one really needs to know before attending an event?

I know that this doesn't have anything to do with dogs but, the dog section is the one that I am most familiar with. I live in Oklahoma and if you haven't heard, we have been hit with a severe ice storm that has caused almost all of the trees in the state to become too heavy and fall onto our powerlines. My entire family along with 400,000 other customers have been out of power since Sunday evening including alot of our cities' water treatment plants and hospitals. Because I beleive in the power of prayer (no matter who you pray to ) and wanted to let everyone know about this devastating situation. So my mandatory question - Has anyone else ever been in a situation similar? I hope not!

Thank you!
